Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is assisting in various aspects of the workers’ compensation and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) / Med Pay claims handling. Assistance is provided to the claims handlers and supervisors within the Worker’s Compensation Unit with regard to paying bills, handling mail, routine phone calls, new insured set-up duties, data entry corrections, and copy projects.
Responsibilities
* Submit stamped medical bills to the vendor for bill review. * Issue payments of bills and invoices relating to claims within the predetermined timeframe that begins with the receipt of an EOB. * Secure W-9 if providers or vendors are not listed in POINT vendor tables. * Handle and mail checks with proper payment documentation. * Prepare all check stubs and bills/invoices for scanning. * Sort pharmacy invoices, sending them to the company pharmacy program vendor. * Issue payments for bill review fees after verifying invoices against the claim payments made. * Research unmatched mail, including initiating contact with insureds to have a claim submitted. * Copy parts of claim files, as directed by the claims handler. * Assist in organizing the paperwork of a claims handler, and attach it to a claim file. * Receive and address telephone calls with inquiries. * Initiate telephone calls to secure needed information or to respond to an inquiry. * Prepare and mail Claims Kits to new captive insureds. * Assist in maintaining the Captive Directories for Workers’ Compensation and Liability insureds. * Make data entry corrections for EAS reconciliation and/or class code changes into POINT. * Submit and monitor bills sent to vendors for specific negotiation. * Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Ideal Candidate
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilitites** * High School diploma or equivalent. * One to two years of office experience. * One to two years of insurance related experience preferred. * Ability to read, analyze data, and interpret general business correspondence. * Proper use of grammar and professional speaking demeanor required. * Ability to effectively present information one-on-one to other departments and customers. * Strong written and oral communication skills required. * Ability to learn and handle multiple tasks. * Through knowledge and proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including utilizing PC databases, spreadsheets and word processing functions. **Physical Demands** * Frequently uses the telephone * Consistently uses the computer * Frequently communicates with others * Consistently lifts up to 10 pounds assisted or unassisted.
