Summary
The Packaging Production Designer is a collaborative, team player and is responsible for packaging layout and production of artwork files within tight timelines. The Packaging Production Designer works closely with Packaging and Industrial Design Manager to decide on packaging format and spec requirements. This role also collaborates with Product Development and Product Management to gather additional project and revision details before preparing files for production.
Responsibilities
**Production Art & Design** - Understand and apply style guide elements/requirements to packaging and products. - Layout packaging artwork and prepare files for production according to established formats, brand standards and style guides. - Initiate and attend artwork review sessions. Collect and implement necessary revisions from the team. - Manage and implement multilingual translations with external translations service. - Create line art, edit photos, and performs prepress functions to prepare artwork for production. - Revise existing die-lines and artwork, as instructed. - Provide creative input and support, as needed. - Review layout specifications for accuracy and resolve discrepancies/correct errors in conjunction with the Packaging & Industrial Design Manager. - Prepare/order packaging mockups for tradeshows and other sample needs. Maintain historical data and costs. - Create renderings of new product displays as needed. - Work with team to help develop effective processes between US and China office - Provide support to China office as needed on artwork/file needs. - Communicate with the team regularly on all active projects, providing updates as needed. - Respond promptly to any artwork issues that arise. - Help organize, update and maintain shared library of artwork files according to established filing guidelines and naming conventions. **Manufacturing** - Assist in the maintenance of materials and processes library. - Review all domestic pre-production proofs to ensure accuracy and quality of final piece. - Identify and propose solutions to streamline manufacturing or assembly processes. - Maintain historical data on production dates, and packaging revisions.
Ideal Candidate
- Highly organized, team player with excellent communication skills and attention to detail. - Bachelor’s degree in visual communications, graphic design, packaging, or industrial design (or equivalent combination of education and experience). - 1-3 years of experience in packaging production and or design, preferably in a consumer products environment; recent graduates demonstrating exceptional potential are encouraged to apply. - Foundational understanding of mass print production. - Familiarity with CTL and CPSC standards. - Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator and Photoshop. - Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and MAC platform. - Comprehensive portfolio highlighting packaging design/production projects (PDF format not to exceed 5 MG). - Exceptional time management skills, coupled with the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment. - Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal. - Experience working in a multi-lingual environment (French Canadian and/or Mandarin) preferred.
