Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible in the areas of safety and training related activities in a manner that will incorporate loss prevention programs and techniques, aimed at reducing losses from machinery/equipment, workers’ compensation and general liability accidents, to support the projects of safety and training of the Company.
Responsibilities
* Work with employees of Lyons Magnus in a positive and constructive manner to maintain a professional relationship. Demonstrates courtesy, discretion, friendliness and diplomacy. * Acts as the Safety Coordinator for the Company Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and ensure that all provisions of the IIPP are implemented and adhered to at all times. * Maintain a safety committee with representation from each department work groups, including Management and coordinate monthly quarterly meetings. * Confer with management to identify safety needs and priorities. * Participate in review of departmental operating policies and procedures. Identify discrepancies in company policies and procedures. Make appropriate recommendations to improve safety to management and safety committee. * Ensure compliance with OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements. Maintain current information on local, state, and federal safety and health regulations. And notify the VP of Human Resources immediately, if Cal/OSHA arrives to conduct a site visit. * Conduct periodic safety compliance inspections and training. * Maintain injury and illness records (OSHA Log). Monitor the OSHA statistics (incident rate) monthly and report to VP of Human Resources. * Review and/or establish accident reporting and investigation procedures to evaluate the root cause of injury/accident, and identify measures needed to prevent recurrence. * Prepare technical reports and presentations for VP of Human Resources regarding analysis of system safety including any corrective action recommendations. * Formalize employee safety meetings/briefings (“tailgate meetings”) and monitor compliance that each department conducts them on a monthly basis. Develop “Train the trainer” modules as needed. * Order and distribute Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and training materials to all employees * Develop and maintain a budget for PPE. * Develop Job Safety Analysis for all employee categories to identify physical job task requirements and establish safe operating procedures to prevent injury or damage. * Review, establish and monitor a formal Early-Return-to-Work policy. * Utilize the resources of third party loss control representatives through quarterly visits and additional resources as needed. * Monitors open workers compensation claims. * Maintain relationships with Occupational Health Clinic(s), provide them with the company’s return to work policy and job requirements on an on going basis. * Communicate with employees, claims adjuster and physician, as necessary to monitor and develop claim to closure. * Follow-up with employee upon return to work to formally document employee understands his/her work restrictions. Monitor progress on a weekly basis. * Establish goal for reducing claim frequency and severity. * On call to respond to all Workplace Accident Emergencies. * Manage Lyons Hazardous Materials Business Plan and Emergency Evacuation. * Responsible for the Environmental, Health, & Safety training of Fresno Plant employees (Bi-Lingual). * Employee uniform management and administration. * Schedule and provide GMP training for all departments day and night shifts * Coordinate yearly fire extinguisher inspections for all departments. * Provide forklift training and certification for all operators. * Coordinate annual forklift rodeo. * Keep first aid cabinets stocked with first aid supplies. * Address any workers compensation questions with the physicians, claims adjusters, and attorneys. * Attend seminars and other workshops.
Ideal Candidate
* Working knowledge and working application in OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations, Safety and Training. * Familiarity with food manufacturing processes and food safety a plus. * Experience with food manufacturing equipment is highly desirable. * Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and an aptitude for detail and strong organizational abilities a must. * Strong presentation and interpersonal skills. **Education:** * A minimum of a Bachelors degree from an accredited university, preferably in Safety; Enviromental, Health, & Safety (EHS), HR, or a related field.
