Responsibilities
Data Scientists at HookLogic don't just crunch numbers…they view the universe as one large data set, and they decipher relationships and high level insights from that mass of information. This person will help conceptualize, design and develop analytical models and algorithms in areas of machine learning, statistics and optimization. As a Data Scientist, you will work closely and collaboratively with product managers and engineers to identify, quantify and solve big problems. The analytics you develop are then used across the organization to guide decisions, predict outcomes, and develop a quantitative ROI. As a Data Scientist, you’ll take the lead as you… **Solve important company problems with the Business Insights team and execute all phases of analysis, including:** - Work with a broad spectrum of decision makers to determine the goals and expected results to their business questions - Determine the best analysis methods leveraging statistical and analytical best practices - Develop exceptional high quality algorithms - Create prototype demos and robust systems to put into market - Provide analytical support for our various product, engineering and services teams - Manipulate and integrate a variety of data sources in the data preparation phase - Identify data anomalies and adjust analysis accordingly - Isolate the incremental financial impact of the business question under investigation - Present results to key business stakeholders - Coordinate with the Information Systems team in gathering data and implementing solutions
Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Econometrics, Engineering, Machine Learning or Computer Science (Master’s degree in any of these fields preferred) - Experience using applied statistics or machine learning in a professional or other intensive problem-solving environment with large, complex datasets - Expertise in R, Hadoop, or SPARK - Proficient with manipulating large data sets in relational databases using SQL, and other query tools. 2 years of experience using SQL required - High proficiency in programming (one of Java, C#, C++, .Net, Visual Basic) and scripting (one of Perl, Python, or equivalent) - Experience manipulating and integrating a variety of data sources (structured, unstructured, relational databases, flat files, etc.) - Experience working with “Big Data” (billions of records) - Experience working with spatial data, a plus - Comfort writing high performance object-oriented code - Solid understanding of advanced analysis techniques and predictive modeling - Ability to communicate sophisticated statistical terminology to non-technical users
