Sales and Use Tax Accountant

In 1970, entrepreneurs David and Barbara Green, along with their young family, began making miniature picture frames in their garage. A few years later, on August 3, 1972, the Green family opened the first Hobby Lobby store with a mere 300 square feet of retail space. Hobby Lobby has not stopped growing since.

Hobby Lobby’s corporate office in Oklahoma City is looking for a full-time person to work in the Tax Department. This position is located at SW 44th and Council. We are looking for a candidate who enjoys a fast-paced environment and is looking to grow within the company.

Contributes significantly to the continued success and growth of Hobby Lobby. Performs sales and use tax compliance functions including converting summarized tax data from the general ledger to worksheets specific to the filing requirements of each taxing jurisdiction. Reports to the Sales & Use Tax Manager. For the right person, will consider hiring on as a Senior Sales & Use Tax Accountant.

• Prepare and review tax returns with an emphasis on sales, use, gross receipts, business license, and other similar returns
• Maintain and update sales tax rates for retail stores and e-commerce
• Respond to sales/use tax notices as well as customer/vendor tax related questions
• Create appropriate monthly journal entries
• Enhance the POS and ecommerce systems through analysis
• Communicate with retail stores and external auditors
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent
• Experience in taxation and/or accounting preferred
• Highly organized individual with the ability to prioritize
• Ability to adhere to inflexible deadlines for monthly financial reporting
• Use of Excel features including Sort, Pivot, Filter, and lookups in connection with large amounts of data
• Willingness to work overtime when necessary
