Senior Data Engineer

Our Data Engineer is someone who Has five or more years of technical experience backed up with education. Really wants to figure out “the why” in things. Takes operational ownership, builds, and then destroys when it’s time to move on. Is not afraid of challenging the status quo. Gets excited about solving edge cases from integrating batch, microbatch and real-time event systems. Will use a number of great technologies including Scala, Java, AWS, Akka, Play, Spark, Teradata Aster, etc.

* Develop data solutions and tooling in SQL, Java, Scala and shell scripts – to name a few. * Develop batch-driven and real-time data flows. * Create MapReduce functions to perform obscure data transformations that SQL does not support or is horrific at. * Work on full-stack solutions. * Mess around in Amazon AWS to make our data faster, better, more accessible, and/or more accurate. * Work with leaders across the organization to understand and build simple data solutions to complex problems. * Provide operational support to Tech and Business partners. * Fluency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle) * Fluency in Dimensional Data Modelling (Ralph Kimball style) * Strong operational experience with Data Warehouse systems larger than 50 Tb * Experience using Linux/Unix * Experience with cloud technologies (such as AWS) * Experience with deployment, continuous integration technologies, container technologies (such as Docker), and source code management (such as Git) **Nice To Have** * Experience with web standards (HTTP, JSON) and RESTful APIs * Experience with Spark * Experience with a functional, imperative or object-oriented language, especially Scala or Java
