Manager of Software Engineering

DigitalOcean’s software engineers develop next generation cloud infrastructure technology that will change how millions of developers build, deploy, and scale web applications. Our mission is to simplify cloud infrastructure; this requires knowledge in many different fields including distributed systems, virtualization, software defined networking, scale out storage, real-time data processing, and user interface design. You will lead a team of software engineers responsible for product delivery from concept to production.

As a manager of software engineering, you will be responsible for leading and building out your team, with an emphasis on hiring, coaching, developing, and strategic planning. * Managing a team of software engineers and leading the team’s day to day activities * Defining, documenting, and presenting strategy and roadmap for the engineering support of our products * Providing regular feedback and guidance from a performance and development perspective * Communicating information and ensuring the team has access to necessary resources to be successful * Hiring, attracting, retaining and developing team of software engineers * Working closely with the product, engineering and design teams to ensure alignment, define scope, milestones, deliverables and the resources needed * Responding quickly to critical customer escalations * Reporting the status of development, quality, operations, and performance to senior management * Managing the budget, processes, compliance and all team related activities for your team

* Strong leadership and coaching skills * Experience managing software engineers in a fast paced, high growth environment, and through multiple releases of features or products * Expertise with at least one of the following languages: Go, Ruby, Python, C/C++, Java * Understanding of UNIX storage subsystems * Familiarity with Distributed Systems programming * Deep understanding of Linux (kernel, processes, tracing, monitoring) * Computer Science degree or cumulative relevant experience * 5+ years of experience in a similar role * Local to NY or willingness to relocate/travel
