Summary
The Accessibility Manager is responsible for ensuring that our products are usable by all. This person is committed to helping designers and engineers meet the latest accessibility standards in their code. But accessibility is about more than standards. The accessibility manager will work with users that employ assistive technologies to make sure that our products are indeed accessible. The accessibility manager will be responsible for communicating the details of the accessibility of our products to the community through formal documentation (VPAT) and outreach.
Responsibilities
* Develop and enforce accessible coding standards. Work with groups throughout product development to ensure awareness of AX and consistent application of standards. * Develop communications around accessibility, including VPATs. * Lead efforts to identify outside vendors and tools needed to meet our accessibility goals. * Manage the triage of accessibility issues and ensure that our latest products are accessible when released. * Manage the application of accessible standards at each phase in the software development lifecycle.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have proven leadership in an organization where change is made without people reporting directly to them, as well as demonstrable expertise in how accessible technology is used and how to apply standards to design, coding, and testing. **Required Skills:** * 5+ years experience building accessible software * Comfortable working in agile development; familiar with continuous delivery model of software development * Understands the workflow and can affect change in design and development, not just QA * Knowledge of accessibility coding standards * Demonstrated success leading groups to deliver web and mobile experiences that meet high accessibility standards * Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to present content is a way that is accessible to all * Knowledge of industry standards and future * Can set us up to meet standards before they are finalized * Can represent Blackboard within the accessibility community **Preferred Skills:** * Previous experience in the education industry or with edtech. **Education:** * Bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to Accessibility, Communications, Education, or Computer Science.
