Summary
Zappos is looking for someone to help improve and build a world-class, extensive and intuitive Taxonomy to optimize our customer experience when searching and browsing. This person will own the strategy, implementation and maintenance of the browse vocabulary and make it easy for our customers to shop for products across all Zappos websites. The Sr. Taxonomist is responsible for creating and maintaining the metadata structure that drives the category and facet-based navigation portions of all Zappos websites. This person is responsible for auditing Zappos’s product catalog to identify the best ways to categorize all products. You must be able to troubleshoot website classification issues, internal taxonomy tool, and system issues. This person also advocates for taxonomy standards that provide the best customer experience for Zappos.com, 6pm.com and Couture.zappos.com. This role will work with fellow taxonomists and classification specialists to edit and develop a navigation taxonomy based on input from data sources, the business, and customer feedback. This role will need to coordinate with multiple cross-functional teams (spanning Merchandising, Marketing and Technology) to ensure all products are accurately represented on Zappos' websites.
Responsibilities
* Develop, evaluate, and manage taxonomy strategies and vision, developing roadmaps and project plans to continually improve browse experience * Implement and analyze custom reporting results to enrich taxonomy change decisions * Understand and document the technology infrastructure that supports taxonomy and classification, and work with various technology teams to facilitate taxonomy changes and improve upon tools and processes * Work with business and technical stakeholders to find solutions and resolve issues in creative and intelligent ways * Plan and lead meetings/working sessions with User Experience, Search, Merchandising, and Site Operations teams * Coordinate with UX Researchers to run and analyze surveys, card sorts, and tree tests to inform taxonomy changes * Balance business and user needs, and facilitate integration across all Zappos business units * Improve our customers’ ability to consistently find items across the site * Support cross-selling and up-selling efforts * Champion the establishment of and adherence to taxonomy and classification standards * Study and understand user behavior (internal and external) and provide the best overall experience * Develop governance models, procedures, and documentation * Mentor and develop less experienced taxonomists and classification specialists
Ideal Candidate
* 3+ years e-Commerce experience * 3+ years taxonomy experience * Ability implement and analyze research and metrics reporting to make informed decisions * Experience planning and conducting user research and analyzing results to help improve customer experience * An ability to see the big picture and tie vision and strategy into the best long-term customer experience * Strong interpersonal and communication skills * Ability to self-motivate and self-manage while also acting as a team player * Advanced time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, manage and balance projects **Preferred Qualifications:** * Project Management experience a plus * Knowledge of relational databases and SQL a plus
