Senior Data Scientist

Zappos is an online retailer specializing in shoes. In addition to shoes they sell handbags, clothing, eyewear, watches and accessories. The company is currently based in Henderson, NV, with a warehouse in Shepherdsville, KY. In addition, Zappos has a small number of brick-and-mortar outlet stores. The name Zappos is derived from the Spanish word zapatos, meaning shoes.

A Senior Data Scientist at Zappos will help us discover new ways to deliver world-class service through our diverse digital marketplace by discovering what our consumers enjoy and what they don’t. You might also make it easier for others at the company to do the same.

* Large scale Machine Learning infrastructure to both discover and offer a better digital experience to our users * Natural Language Processing to understand text content across products, including reviews, descriptions and interactions between users * Computer Vision for image content analysis: classification, quality, attractiveness, similarity, extraction of features for ranking models. * Identifying suspicious transactions and malicious users for Fraud. * Modeling demand and supply situation in real time to optimize the overall shipping efficiency and give valuable insights to the product managers. * Clustering of potential customers and products to enable more intelligent matching. * Translate ideas and theory into solutions the business can use to grow * Research, develop, and implement predictive algorithms for our real time experimentation system. * Mine experiment data for issues and unidentified wins, then automate and develop tooling around that.

* Industry experience building and productionizing innovative Machine Learning systems end-to-end. * Good understanding of mathematical underpinnings behind Machine Learning algorithms * Solid engineering and coding skills. Ability to write high performance production quality code. * Programming ability (R/Python) – Responsible in helping to build out an API for machine learning projects we work on. * SQL experience - Experience in transactional and data warehouse environments using MS SQL Server, Postgres, Amazon Redshift, or other database systems. Must deeply understand joins, sub-queries, window functions, etc. * Self-starter - You will have an enormous amount of leeway to research and develop new techniques to increase efficiency of our experimentation systems. * Humility - Admit when you’re wrong and make a mistake, …(we make mistakes sometimes too!) * Strong business acumen; ability to effectively present to a team of executives * PhD, Masters in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics OR BA/BS in one of those fields with 5+ years of work experience strong
