Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. We are looking for an experienced Audience Development Manager to build the organization’s product marketing and audience development capacity, focused on user acquisition and engagement on desktop and mobile. This is a unique opportunity to serve nearly half a billion users every month at one of the world’s most popular websites, in support of Wikimedia’s free knowledge mission and community. Key activities include product positioning, launch planning, and multi-channel campaigns that leverage unpaid organic promotion, owned and earned media, and brand engagement, with the goal of increasing user acquisition and retention. The role will work closely with different teams across the organization to help shape our outreach priorities and strategy. In short, your job will be to improve how the world accesses, shares, and creates knowledge. The role reports to the Senior Communications Manager, with room for significant growth.
Responsibilities
* Develop and drive strategic marketing campaigns to support user acquisition and retention on Wikimedia mobile and desktop products, especially Wikipedia * Partner with Product Managers, User Research, Design, and other teams to develop product positioning, marketing priorities, audience segmentations, and strategies * Analyze user trends and behavior, competitive landscape, and digital trends to determine adoption drivers, audience patterns, and campaign impacts * Measure and analyze marketing initiatives and ongoing performance to quantify campaign success and identify areas for improvement * Coordinate collateral development and execution of multi-channel campaigns that may include social media, video, newsletters, video, graphic design, PR, live events, or brand partnerships * Help build and streamline public-facing technology narrative for organization in collaboration with Communications colleagues and Engineering * Contribute to in-product education and messaging in collaboration with other teams
Ideal Candidate
**Requirements** * 3-5 years in audience development or product marketing for digital media or consumer technology brands * Ability to develop and drive projects from start to finish, coordinating resources and people * Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to develop and measure campaigns against metrics * Ability to adapt industry best practices for unique, free knowledge organization * Excellent writing skills with ability to write clearly and credibly and turn complex features into simple value propositions * Experience working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds * Ability to build strong working relationships across an organization * Self-starter with ability to learn on the job * Comfortable in a highly collaborative, consensus-oriented environment * Commitment to Wikimedia mission of making knowledge freely available to the world **Pluses** * Direct marketing experience for consumer-facing mobile products * Experience marketing internationally, especially in developing countries * Background in market or user research * Experience contributing to the Wikimedia projects * Experience with data analysis (SQL etc.)
