Data Engineer

We are seeking a data engineer to grow the team. You will collaborate closely with our engineering team, external vendors and services, the rest of the data team, and end users across the organization, to provide accurate and timely data and efficient and impactful tooling. By developing and maintaining the foundational data layer, you will have a direct, visible, and profound effect upon a large, global, and data-driven organization.

Develop and maintain ETLs, ELTs, and keep the lights on

• Develop processes to bring in new data sources
• Document data flow and processes
• Backfill data
• Archive, backup and restore data as necessary
• Maintain SLA
• Communicate outages, issues, impact, current state, and time to resolve

Optimize the system

• Optimize system for performance: vacuum, index, sort keys, distribution keys, caching etc.
• Detect data quality issues to root cause, and implement fixes and data audits to prevent/capture such issues

Data modeling

• Develop appropriate data models for landing and storing data
• Work with internal customers to develop optimized models and views for their needs
• Guide analysts on high-quality efficient SQL

Systems and Tooling

• Automate repetitive tasks
• Review code, deploy code and systems
• Vet and research new technologies

• 3+ years of experience in data-engineering, devops engineering or software engineering with a focus on data
• Strong skills in data warehouse design, development, testing and deployment.
• Skilled in a scripting language such as Python
• Deep understanding of SQL and the query planner
• Expertise with version control, ideally git
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, agile environment
