Summary
The University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System, Diagnostic Services is seeking to hire a Medical Radiogrpaher Specialist. The MRS will perform EP studies, cardiac catheterizations and peripheral vascular procedures. The Medical Radiographer Specialist primary focus is the technical aspects required for catheterization including, but not limited to, Radiographic Imaging, EP Monitoring and recording and Hemodynamic assessment. This position will work in close collaboration with the Invasive Lab’s SN IIs, SN I s and Cardiac Technologists and acts as a technical and administrative resource for the Invasive CV lab’s Physicians and staff.
Responsibilities
* Assumes the responsibility of the senior technologist in his absence in an administrative and technical supervisory capacity. * Assumes responsibility for the technical education of technologists and RNs in the Invasive CV labs. * Consults daily schedule, determines equipment needed and preparations to be made according to patient’s scheduled procedure. * Interacts with patients, explains procedures, attempts to allay fears and anxieties associated with the equipment and procedures and elicits cooperation by responding to any and all patient needs. * Technologist must be able to demonstrate ability to interact and physically handle geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric and neo-natal patients. * Sets up and calibrates specialized equipment. * Aids attending physicians, as directed, during EP studies, Cardiac Catheterization Procedures and PV procedures * Monitors supply usage, orders supplies via PMM as needed, replenishes supply cabinets with items used during procedures. * Keeps equipment clean, makes incidental repairs, adjustments, and replacements and notifies Clinical Engineering or appropriate entity to equipment malfunctions and / or breakdowns and follows-up until appropriately repaired or sequestered. * Assigns and directs the work of Cardiac Catheterization Technologists II and below. * On-call for cardiac catheterization Laboratory. * Responsible for Invasive CV Lab Charge Entry * Responsible for assisting with obtaining incoming and creating outgoing Cardiac Catheterization CDs. * Performs the duties of a Cardiac Catheterization Technologist II and III as required or assigned. * Performs related duties as assigned by Cardiac Cath Lab Manager or CV lab Director or assigned supervisor. * Responsible for performing daily QC testing of equipment and testing patient blood samples using the Hemochron Signature Elite to perform Point of Care Testing (Activated Clotting Time).
Ideal Candidate
* High school diploma * Current/valid registration or certification in medical radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or current/valid certification in the Invasive Cardiovascular Specialty by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). * Current/valid licensure in medical radiography by the State of Illinois (IEMA). * Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in EP Lab or closely related field as designated by position to be filled. * One (1) year (12 months) of progressively more responsible work experience in medical radiography comparable to the next lower level of this series.
