Summary
The Pipeline Supervisor is a senior role within the Production Technology team reporting to the Head of Production Technology. The Pipeline Supervisor provides direction and leadership in managing the ongoing development and maintenance of the studio’s pipeline. This requires timely, accurate and effective communication with all departments interfacing with the pipeline.
Responsibilities
* The Pipeline Supervisor must partner with producers, creative supervisors, departments heads, engineers, and artists to define technology and workflow requirements to meet the needs of productions and overseas’ initiative. As a key technology leader in the studio, the Pipeline Architect is responsible for ensuring that the internal content teams have the best possible tools, pipeline and technical artists to ensure they can deliver high quality and compelling animation on time and on-budget. Articulate and timely communication skills are essential. * Maintaining an intimate understanding of the technologies deployed throughout the pipeline and the workflow processes in place to facilitate Production deliveries. * Interfacing with all production department Leads to manage technical development priorities and ensure they have the tools necessary for on time delivery of the Production quota. * Managing incremental change to the always-evolving pipeline in order to increase productivity for creative departments with an emphasis on quality control and up time. * Managing pipeline development delivery schedules to satisfy artistic department priorities * Communicating the pipeline development status to department Leads and Executive Management. * Interfacing with the Systems department; Assisting in analyzing the infrastructure requirements necessary to ensure consistent up time of the pipeline in a robust environment; Assisting in the organization of production data in order to ensure consistency, efficiency and ease of use. * Preparing new hire orientation for Technical Directors * Mentoring and providing direction for Technical Directors involved in the development and maintenance of the pipeline. * Developing and ensuring best practices for coding standards, testing efforts and code releases. * Write and reviewing technical specifications, testing strategies, training materials, user and technical documentation relating to pipeline. * Assisting with HR tasks such as recruiting and performance evaluations. * Liaising with the Head of Production Technology and the Head of IT in order to help define and drive studio technology research, assessments, decisions and implementation.
Ideal Candidate
* 5+ years of CG production experience, which include working on at least two previous feature animation pipelines that involved VFX, and ideally on full pipeline development projects that have been executed from the ground up. * Experience in artist and infrastructure tool design, prototyping and implementation using Python (or other scripting language), MEL and C++ in environments whose key tools are Maya, Houdini, Renderman or 3Delight, Yeti (or other fur or hair system), Nuke (preferred) or Fusion, Naiad or RealFlow. * Experience with (or experience developing) production management and asset tracking software such as Shotgun or Tactic * Very strong leadership, organizational and project management skills; must have experience and influence to lead the TDs and give direction on Pipeline development decisions while operating under tight deadlines. * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related science or technology degree, or equivalent technology-oriented job experience. * Familiarity with the productions shared across multiple sites, such as a joint collaboration with one or more overseas studios. * Experience with vendor relationships.
Compensation and Working Conditions
Annual Pay $130,000 - $170,000
Reports to VP of Production/Co-Presidents
Hours per week 40 and up
