Senior Layout / Camera Artist

The Senior Layout Artist will be responsible for the Layout (shot prep/ final layout) department. This will involve working very closely with the CG Supervisor and the Director.

* Create & utilize all digital assets, including character and backgrounds to interpret a script as visualized by the Director(s) and Production Designer(s). * Provides leadership in delivering the cinematic pre-visualization of the project vision. This includes ensuring completion of layout of 3D animatic level sequences from start to finish using multiple elements based on scripts and input from Director(s). * Liaise with the Animation Supervisor to determine any special needs he has before prepping the files for animation, to oversee the artists, review the material and sign off on publication to animation. * Adjustments to the shot cameras during the Animation process. * To oversee the process of populating the shot with all the assets necessary for lighting, simulation, crowds and matte painting during Final Layout. * Participates as a team member in determining various technical and aesthetic solutions; provides feedback to other members of the production by attending dailies on a regular basis. * Maintains or exceeds a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work. * Shotgun experience * Works closely with the Director of Photography and Director to bring the shots/sequences to Producer’s approval and completion. * Attend any relevant meetings to promote effective communication throughout the production team. * Help in the recruiting and staffing of the Layout team and assesses the work of prospective candidates for hiring. * Expected to mentor entry level Layout Artists and must be able to assist them with their shots. * Additional tasks related to layout and pre-visualization as needed.

* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation required or equivalent work experience * 5+ years of experience creating cinematic pre-visualizations for CG animation or feature film productions, with at least 2 years of Lead experience. * Previous experience in a leadership role on a Feature film or Animated Feature project with a strong interest in Rough Layout, Layout, Final Layout, and Set Dressing and Stereoscopy. * Expertise in scene, shot, camera, and character composition is preferred. * Exposure to modeling, lighting, texturing and animation required. * Strong knowledge of terminology and techniques used in film, animation and visual effects including knowledge of photography and camera lenses. * Strong understanding of cinematography a must. * A strong working knowledge of the principles of cinematic staging, blocking and camera work. * Demonstrated expertise using Maya is required, with good working knowledge of Unix/Linux. * Scripting and programming skills a plus * Excellent working knowledge of animation for both cameras and CG characters; * Basic CG modeling skills a must; * Good working knowledge of stereoscopic production methodologies; * Ability to learn and use new software as needed. * Good organization and communication skills. * Demonstrated artistic ability. * Attention to detail required. * Ability to learn quickly and assimilate new information. * Strong communication skills required. * Good interpersonal and organizational skills. * A reel demonstrating a variety of different styles of animation including pieces which showcase the candidate’s performance and action abilities.
