Responsibilities
* Support the development, implementation and assessment of the Texas Plants' safety systems. Activities include, but are not limited to, the assessment of plant health & safety needs; development of practical, effective solutions to those needs; aiding the implementation of solutions (including training) and assessing the effectiveness of the solutions. * Research and summarize federal safety regulations and consensus industry standards. Conduct and prepare regulatory applicability studies. * Provide guidance related to health and safety issues. Interact and work with the production, maintenance and engineering departments to provide technical support related to regulatory compliance and the development of practical solutions related to safety, industrial hygiene, training, fire protection emergency management, and recordkeeping. * Develop and deliver health & safety-related training programs. These may include classroom and field training as well as one-to-one training with individuals. * Support employee involvement in safety initiatives. Activities may include being a contact for plant safety teams and attending safety team meetings as needed. * Participate in incident investigations. * Perform IH and ergonomic assessments. * Other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
**Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:** * Must possess a bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field with safety-related subjects. * A minimum of three years of safety and/or industrial hygiene experience, preferably in a chemical manufacturing or oil refining environment * Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills with effective interpersonal skills. * Through knowledge of federal, state and local safety and health regulations * Familiarity with relevant industry standards and guidelines including OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and NIOSH. * Demonstrated technical writing skills. * Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products, primarily the use of word processing, EHS database applications, presentation and spreadsheet software. * Excellent analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to analyze multifaceted situations/problems/concepts along with the capacity to venture beyond core competencies. * Ability to give clear direction and support to client groups to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and guidelines. * Ability to work independently in a fast paced setting with minimal supervision. * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office **Considered a Plus** * ASP, CSP or CIH certification * Asbestos Certifications * Radiation Safety Officer training
