Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager, Retail, Branding and Licensing, the Retail Associate will be responsible for expanding the museum visitor's experience by providing exceptional service, and assisting visitors in the Museum Boutique. - Greet customers, determine needs and offer assistance - Operate a POS (point of sale) system including credit & debit card processing & cash handling - Open and close cash register, count money, balance cash drawers and deposits - Operate an inventory management system and maintain inventory records - Maintain knowledge of retail policies and procedures, and related security practices - Maintain knowledge of product benefits and features, current sales and promotions, and share knowledge with visitors as appropriate - Address staff and visitor concerns and complaints, escalating to Team Lead, Retail when deemed necessary - Price incoming product, and prepare for sales floor - Stock shelves, display and arrange merchandise to promote sales - Clean and tidy shelves, counters, and display tables throughout the boutique - Gift wrap, bag, package items and prepare outgoing shipments - Accept deliveries - Perform other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
Skills and Qualifications – Required - Ability to communicate effectively in both official languages, oral and written. - Minimum of two years of related retail experience, or an equivalent combination of experiences - Experience working as part of a team - Experience handling cash - Experience operating a POS (point of sale) system - Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint - Ability to sensitively address staff and visitor concerns and complaints - Available to work shifts (weekdays, weekends, evenings and general holidays) Skills and Qualifications – Desired - Experience operating an inventory management system - Knowledge of general security practices in a retail setting - Ability to communicate in additional languages - Experience working with and managing volunteers - Experience with visual merchandising displays - Ability to determine retail and fashion trends Conditions of Employment - Security Screening Level (Reliability Status, Level I (CONFIDENTIAL) - Child Abuse Registry Check (if applicable i.e. for all visitor-facing roles)

Occasional heavy lifting required (up to 20 kilograms/ 44 pounds) Considerable standing is required (up to 6 hours) or the ability to remain stationed in one location Work is in an open public environment
