Summary
Perform Engineering studies, instrument selection, control design, project management, and production support. Design and start-up new projects, modify and replace existing equipment and troubleshoot systems to improve throughput, OEE, efficiencies, quality, safety, environmental performance, reliability and costs at the GB Biosciences manufacturing site.
Responsibilities
* Manage all activities through the Lean Management System, Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Capital Projects Engineering, Safety, Environmental, Technology and Engineering, and Supply Chain personnel to identify and implement the best solutions to improve plant availability, reliability, production rate and HSE performance. * Assist in Prepare Process and Instrument scope definitions for the modification of existing equipment and the installations of new systems. * May assist in coordination and execution with the installation of new projects. * May occasionally serve in other temporary roles such as commissioning of projects, start-up support, Process Risk Analysis, or coverage for technical or operations supervision. * Prepare procedures, commissioning and start-up plans for new or modified systems. * Provide engineering design and evaluation to debottleneck, improve reliability and trouble shoot problems. * Perform various tasks to maintain and improve Process Safety Management * Keep abreast of the latest control systems/ instruments and investigate/propose alternates to existing systems that will result in greater efficiency, reliability and/or HSE performance for the Site processes * Provide technical assistance and support facilitation of training for site engineering, maintenance and operations departments. * Support Principal Control engineer in effective overall management of site DCS and PLC systems * Contribute at a high level to a safe working environment **Critical Success Factors & Key Challenges:** * Learn details of the Unit operations and the Project Process and other engineering procedures. * Develop successful interfaces with the internal customers. * Prioritize activities to deliver the maximum benefits. * Be active contributing team member. * Develop and deliver significant improvements to plant reliability, throughput and excellent HSE performance
Ideal Candidate
**Critical knowledge: :** * Strong problem solving credentials with an interest in chemical production * Solid academic preparation in the engineering discipline * Broad and general knowledge of chemical manufacturing and an interest in building a engineering career based on a production and process chemical/ Instrument/ Control engineering foundation * Experience working with and through others with strong values and integrity with team inclinations * Knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools and sound engineering practices **Will develop in the role:** * Engineering and design of control systems * PLC and DCS hardware and software – Honeywell, Modicon and Rosemont RS-3 * Instrument and electrical drawing and specification systems * Chemical manufacturing site instrumentation **Critical experience:** * Bachelor's Degree in Chemical/ Control/ Instrument/ Electrical Engineering * Applicable work, Engineering internship or research experience **Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities:** * Demonstrated leadership skills through work, school or extra-curricular activities * Influencing skills needed. * Innovative approaches * Strategic decision making * Organizational effectiveness * Personal drive and Energy * Ability to develop and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships * Strong teamwork and team leading capabilities * Ability to work independently and make autonomous decisions when necessary * Able to climb ladders and walk catwalks, etc., in order to monitor, direct and validate equipment and installations * Troubleshooting of process control problems / breakdowns * Initiative to take proactive actions and seize improvement opportunities * Willingness and ability to develop new skills required by advancing technology * Organization and follow-up * Project management capabilities * Excellent communications
