Summary
The Director of Claims/Risk Management is responsible for the facility’s claims management activities, which include, but may not be limited to; risk financing, managing claims against the facility, interfacing with defense legal counsel, administering the risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs. This individual is responsible for coordinating those systems necessary for identification, evaluation, monitoring, reduction and/or elimination of professional and general liability risk exposures.
Responsibilities
* She/he will provide counseling and education to facility leadership, clinical personnel, Board of Trustee and medical staff members related to risk exposures including risk presentation and risk reduction. The Director of Claims/Risk Management will participate in the management and support of professional liability litigation at the direction and under the guidance of the HCI Department of Claims. * The Director of Claims/Risk Management also supports the hospital’s clinical risk management/patient safety program and will comply with standards set forth by regulatory agencies and the HCA Patient Safety Organization, all with the objective of maintaining patient safety, enhancing quality care and minimizing patient harm. * SUPERVISION: This job reports to the Vice President of Quality Management
Ideal Candidate
* Graduate of accredited School of Nursing, Current State of Nevada License. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required; Masters’ preferred. * Licensure/Certification/Registration: * Registered Nurse with current Nevada licensure required * Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM); if not already CPHRM, must obtain certification within first two years of hire. * Experience: * Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing in an acute care facility. * Minimum of three (3) years of experience in claims management, clinical risk management, or quality management required. * Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both the written and verbal format * Demonstrated intermediate to advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications and ability to adopt other database applications * • Proven Risk Management experiences in healthcare, claims adjustment/insurance/legal experience preferred. * Supervisory and/or management experience preferred * Comfortable and skilled at working with physicians, healthcare providers and other stakeholder of the organization * Capable of gaining immediate credibility with individuals through experience, presentation, communication skills, empathy and compassion * Ability to work independently and interdependently * Broad knowledge and familiarity with healthcare related regulatory and accreditation requirements
