Summary
The Food Service Specialist assists the cook on duty by assisting with preparation, cooking and serving of meals, cleaning of dishes, and keeping the kitchen area clean. This position supports the division goals by maintaining contract compliance by assuring a clean and sanitary kitchen and presenting a nutritious meal to the residents.
Responsibilities
**Dishwashing/Cleaning (50%)** * Wash and put away dishes. * Take down garbage and recyclables. * Sweep and mop floors. * Clean out the dishwasher and the garbage disposal. * Clean the service area. * Clean and sanitize the sinks in the dishwasher area. * Complete cleaning check list. * Adhere to company policies, procedures, and management decisions. * Ensure that proper hand washing, hygiene, and infection control techniques are exercised. * Attend all in-service education programs and staff meetings required of all personnel. **Serving Meals (25%)** * Drive and deliver meals to Spokane Residential Reentry (SRRC). * Set up and serve meals to the residents and staff of SRRC. * Pack up leftover food, dirty dishes and utensils, drive back to Carlyle and unpack items and start dishwashing. * Assist with meal service at Carlyle including preparation of service area, beverages, special diet requests, and fruit. * Report to licensed nurses and/or Administrator per policy immediately when observing any unusual or significant change(s) in a resident’s physical or behavioral condition; complete mandatory reporter requirements. * Complete incident reports per policy based on type of incident. * Maintain and respect privacy and confidentiality in relationship to both residents and staff; treat all residents and staff with respect and dignity. * Work in a team setting with staff from various departments. **Preparing Sack Lunches/Desserts (10%)** * Prepare the sack lunches for SRRC to include checking the menu for the correct meal, preparing the sandwiches and packing all the components for the sack lunch. * Assist with the preparation and serving of desserts and fruit for meals. **Stocking (10%)** * Stock condiments, cereals, napkins, and all items in the display case as needed. * Assist in stocking and storage of food items delivered, rotating the existing stock to the front to be used first. * Conduct temperature checks for all refrigerated items as they arrive; record temperature checks. **Performs other duties as required (5%)** **Customer Interactions:** Responsible to communicate with the residents and employees regarding menus and diets, and taking names for the alternate list; population served is adults with chronic, severe mental illnesses, and/or physical disabilities. Facility also serves some individuals with developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, dementia, chemical dependency struggles, and criminal histories.
Ideal Candidate
**Required Qualifications** * Current Driver's License and clean driving record. * Ability to read and write English. * Ability to successfully pass a Washington State DSHS background check **After hire:** * Must obtain a TB test within 72 hours of hire and must obtain a second step test within allotted time frame. If history of testing positive, must provide proof of chest x-ray and treatment completed or blood test results indicating negative for TB prior to working in the facility. * HIV/AIDS Training and CPR/First Aid Training must completed within 30 days of hire unless proof of completion provided upon hire. * Food handler's permit must be obtained within 14 days of hire or proof of card must be shown prior to hire. **Preferred/Desirable Qualifications** * High school diploma or equivalency. * Experience working in an industrial kitchen. * Experience working in an assisted living facility. * Experience working with specialty populations (mental health, dementia, developmental disabilities). **Tools & Equipment:** Facility vehicle, industrial walk-in refrigerator and freezer, industrial mixer, convection ovens, steamer, grill, stove top, meat slicer, salamander, industrial dishwasher, garbage disposal, cooking utensils, knives, pans, mop/bucket, cleaning chemicals.

Additional Notes on Compensation

403(b) retirement plan; Pioneer contributes 4.5% of employees' annual salaries into retirement plans. An additional 3.5% match is offered to those who contribute 6% of their own salary. Public transportation reimbursement of $25 per month.

Working Conditions

Work Setting, including hazards: In the kitchen area, potential hazards include chemicals and cooking equipment which may be hot and sharp. In the dining room area, there is potential exposure to bodily fluids, yelling, unpredictable behavior.
