Summary
Assists in the design, development, implementation, analysis, and operation of technical products and systems related to the Demand Side Management Department.
Responsibilities
* Supports the department’s Operations domain through Demand Response strategy creation and Demand Response event initiation, monitoring, and reporting * Act as the testing lead for the Demand Response department by managing the specifications, development, and testing of new software, hardware, and firmware for Demand Response & Distributed Energy Resources applications to ensure safe operation of premise based equipment (e.g. new Programmable Communicating Thermostats, Home Area Network devices, load controllers, electric and thermal storage devices, ZigBee smart meter interfaces) * Test and implement controls and communication strategies from the utility back office all the way to behind the meter premise devices * Design and implement Non-Responding Device remediation strategies * Serve as the hardware and software test lead by developing end-to-end test plans, creating and implementing testing schedules and budgets, and acting as the liaison in communications with vendors. * Provide coordination and communication with other departments such that total project schedules and expenditures are maintained in accordance with commitments. * Develop economical, technically feasible, reliable designs with minimal supervision and guidance. * Provide input for development of detailed project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. * Monitor project expenditures and practice cost control such that project commitments are met. * Evaluate bids for materials and labor according to engineering specifications, thereby ensuring that the Company will acquire the most cost-effective products and services. * Use smart meter and runtime data to generate load impact curves by device gear and curtailment strategy. * Support Quantitative Analyst to ensure accurate Forecasting and Optimization processes. * Design, test, and implement Non-Responding Device remediation strategies * Ensure accurate and appropriate pre-season testing of all load control systems as well as continuous monitoring and troubleshooting of load control systems. * Perform the routine aspects of assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles. * Use fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures; and perform specific and limited portions of assigned tasks. * Perform field activities such as sampling and routine testing or observation of activities may be required. * Requires a theoretical knowledge of engineering principals and moderate knowledge of other phases of engineering. Must be able to prepare technical evaluations and concise reports. Must have a fundamental knowledge of economic analysis methods, basic budgeting procedures, and company policies, rules and regulations. Must have a basic knowledge of utility engineering practices and procedures, construction methods and material specifications.
Ideal Candidate
* Essential Education, Skills, and Environment Education and Work Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited school and 5+ years’ experiences and a PE or 8 years of experience if no PE * Knowledge of general engineering principles is required. Experience or knowledge of Home Area Networks, OpenADR, ZigBee protocol, Z-Wave protocol, VHF communications, or UHF communications preferred. * Equipment and Applications PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software with emphasis on Microsoft Office. * Ability to utilize various applications used in Demand Response.
