Summary
The Energy Engineer has responsibility for identifying and quantifying the opportunity for projects involving Demand Response, efficiency, renewable technologies, management and operating improvements to major energy using equipment at customer facilities. Responsible for conducting field audits, development of the technical and financial case for the offering, proposal development, interfacing with the customer during the proposal process, and development of comprehensive designs for efficiency improvements. The primary focus of this position will be on Demand Response, Facility and Plant System Optimization, Energy Auditing, HVAC Efficiency and Performance Improvements, Energy/Building Systems Controls, Performance Contracting, Pinch Analysis, Steam Optimization and Compressed Air System Optimization. We are headquarted out of Buffalo, NY, but are looking for a candidate from the NYC/NJ area.
Responsibilities
* Conducts preliminary field audits of customer facilities and equipment to identify opportunities for energy curtailment. * Gather required information to complete a summary report of initial findings, which would include major equipment and utility systems installed, identified potential locations for installation of equipment and potential tie-in points for system retrofits. * Develop Curtailment Plan for participation in NY Demand Response Programs. * Gather required information to complete a summary report of initial findings, which would include major equipment and utility systems installed, identified potential locations for installation of equipment and potential tie-in points for system retrofits. * Investigates utility costs, tariffs and alternate procurement strategies. * Ability to complete detailed engineering analysis based on investment-grade field findings and proposed recommendations. * Work with Sales, and Management to develop and present Preliminary Conceptual Design solution and Memorandum of Understanding to customer. * Complete investment grade audit of customer facility and systems. Gather, document and communicate all pertinent field information. * Complete detailed engineering analysis based on investment-grade field findings and proposed recommendations. * Define complete final Scopes of Work and bid specification packages for each required discipline for submission and use with each subcontract discipline. * Define detailed line-item budget estimate for proposed potential recommendations, which will include subcontractor bid pricing for each discipline, firm equipment costs, engineering costs, project and construction management costs and contingencies. * Solicit and compile into detailed line-item project estimate, detailed cost proposals, equipment proposals, material cost proposals and internal manpower cost estimates. * Develop and refine detailed project schedule for proposed project. * Gather required information to complete a summary report of findings, which would include major equipment and utility systems installed, identified potential locations for installation of equipment and potential tie-in points for system retrofits. * Develop and define Project risk assessment plan. * Work with Sales, and Management to develop and present Final Design solution and final customer agreement to customer. * Work with Project Management delivery team to develop Project Final Cost estimate, Project deliverables, and Project Schedule and Construction implementation plan. * Prepares analyses and reports recommending cost-effective measures for energy improvements. * Prepares designs and specifications for the equipment (e.g. cogeneration, energy efficiency and infrastructure retrofits, chillers, VFD’s) necessary to achieve energy improvements. * Evaluates end-use energy cost under various available delivery rate and supply scenarios. * Keeps abreast of new technologies supporting efficient energy utilization through reading, meeting with suppliers and attending seminars. * Evaluate the financial viability of any planned projects including federal and state incentives. * Manage energy efficiency projects to ensure they meet specifications and customer satisfaction. * Utilize strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to communicate complex technical energy-use concepts to non-technical and non-financial people
Ideal Candidate
* At a minimum, must possess a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with additional study in the energy highly desirable. * The position also requires a strong background in building systems (Cogeneration, HVAC, and building automation systems), strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to communicate complex technical energy-use concepts to non-technical and non-financial people and a thorough understanding of utility rates. * The successful candidate should have at least 7 years of progressively more responsible experience in the area of energy end-use and conservation, with CEM certification desirable. * Previous leadership experience is a plus. Must be creative, customer-focused and have vision for the business. * This position recommends a Professional Engineer, but is not required, with a strong background in building systems (cogeneration, optimization, HVAC, lighting, building automation systems), strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical energy-use concepts to non-technical and non-financial people.
