Senior Educational Media Designer

This position will collaborate with various units within the NC State University Distance Education & Learning Technology Applications department to provide leadership in the design and production of rich-media applications for online instruction. This role is responsible for the coordinated production of course materials while providing consistency in design, quality and brand of products developed. Establishes the conceptual and stylistic direction for contributing team members, as well as the work of graphic artists, photographers, illustrators, media producers and those involved in the development of educational media projects.

- Serves as a Producer and Lead for educational media design within ITSD and DELTA. - Contributes directly to the planning, design and development of rich-media solutions for online education. - Assists with establishing overall strategic direction of production initiatives from the research and development phase through execution phase. - Provides art direction and supervision for identified professional temporary staff, vendors and part-time staff students on targeted multimedia production projects. - Maintains expertise in design and development skills required for visual design, digital communications and dynamic media design (web design, game development, interactive design, animation, motion graphics). - Works directly with DELTA instructional designers, faculty and staff to assess, design and develop sound pedagogical solutions for improving course design and student engagement.

- 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Media Arts, Design, Educational Media, or related field. - 3 – 5 years experience in the development of educational multimedia applications, tools, systems and related media products within a team-based environment. - 2 – 3 years experience in directing, managing or leading team-based design and production projects. - Experience in utilizing an array of educational technologies including hardware and software, multimedia applications, Internet, and synchronous learning technology. - Proficiency using industry standard, design, multimedia, communication tools and equipment (audio, video, photo) - Demonstrated expertise in graphic design, visual communications and developing multimedia applications, products and services within a team-based environment. - Excellent interpersonal, communications and client management skills, ability to facilitate teamwork, ability to work well in a collegial relationship with faculty, staff, and students, and ability to be flexible yet highly motivated. - High level of independence and initiative and the ability to multi-task. - Awareness of usability and accessibility considerations in multimedia design. - Excellent client management skills. - Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, ability to facilitate teamwork, ability to work well in a collegial relationship with faculty, staff, and students, and ability to be flexible yet highly motivated. - High level of independence and initiative and the ability to multi-task. - Awareness of usability and accessibility considerations in multimedia design. - Expertise in multimedia authoring applications, digital imaging, Internet programming languages, online media, digital video production, interface design. - Expertise in hardware and equipment used in the production on multimedia applications and course development solutions. - Post baccalaureate degree in Design, Computer Science, Media Arts, Instructional Technology or related field. - 6+ years experience in the design and development of educational multimedia applications, tools, systems and related media products within a team-based environment. - 4+ years experience in managing production projects, people and resources. - Knowledge of Learning Management Systems. - Experience in the production of educational applications in an academic environment. - Advanced certifications and/or degree beyond a Master’s level
