Responsibilities
Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer works with analysts and business stakeholders to understand a business problem, need or opportunity in order to gather requirements in order to design and build a solution/reports focusing on maintainability, automation and end-user self-service. BI Engineer creates scalable, maintainable, and reliable business intelligence infrastructure. BI Engineer will be responsible for working across multiple technology platforms and blending said technologies to create the most ideal solution for business counterparts. BI Engineer will work closely with a variety of people depending on initiative including the Business Stakeholders, Architects, Developers, Test team and Project Managers. BI Engineer will mentor, coach and train team members to build overall team strength & knowledge. BI Engineer may be assigned as solution/report owner and will be responsible for on-going support of those solutions/reports. BI Engineer will play a key role in continuous analytical improvements and evolution Information Services team within the department. Partners and collaborates with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data for a wide variety of data sources from business systems or trading partners. Tunes application and query performance using SQL profiling tools. Interfaces with analysts, business customers (internal or external) to gather/define requirements for solutions/reports. Responds to high priority requests from senior business leaders. Learns and understands a broad range of MVP's data resources and knows when, how, and which to use and which not to use. Continually improves ongoing team reporting processes, automating or simplifying self-service. Designs, implements and supports the reporting infrastructure providing secured access to large datasets. Models data and metadata to support ad-hoc and pre-built/static reports. Owns the design, development, and maintenance of reports and dashboards, which help drive key business decisions. Recognizes and adopts best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation. Mentors, trains and coaches team members. Develops, maintains and manages to project plans. Directs work of others to meet project plan deliverables. Prepares estimates and coordinates efforts of other analysts on specific potential work and develops time/effort estimates as requested. Serves as departmental leader and subject matter expert on corporate projects. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Education:** * BA or BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Finance, Statistics or related discipline. Advanced degree preferred. * Certified Microsoft Product Specialist in SQL preferred. **Minimum Experience:** * Minimum of 2 (BI Engineer II) or 7 (BI Engineer III) years of experience with direct data analysis and data management preferable in a health care environment. * 3+ years of relevant experience in a business intelligence role, such as data warehousing and business intelligence tools, techniques and technology, or experience in analytics, business analysis, or comparable analytics solutions. * 3+ years of experience using business intelligence reporting tools (SSRS, SSAS, Cognos, Tableau) * Experience with MS SQL Server Developer Administration * Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with medium-scale, complex datasets. * Advanced knowledge and expertise with MS SQL, Sybase, Oracle and OLAP. * 3+ years of experience leveraging the capability of business intelligence in fast moving medium-sized data environments using RDBMS, flat file, and XML data sources. * Experience in developing dashboards and scorecards * BI Engineer III - Prior Lead or Supervisory experience preferred **Required Skills:** * Expert level analytical skills * Top notch communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to convey key insights from complex analysis in summarized business terms and an ability to effectively communicate with business unit representation and analysts * Exceptional customer focus * Experience with at least one programming language, preferably SQL or C#. * Strong skills in T-SQL required for BI Engineer III. * Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent attention to detail * Strong dimensional, star schema modeling skills and MDX experience required for BI Engineer III. * Proficient with Windows tools, including spreadsheets, word processing, project and email. * Proven ability at looking at solutions in unconventional ways. Sees opportunities to innovate and can lead the way. * Advanced ability to build relationships with business and technical partners to improve customer service and continuously improve project delivery * Highly self-motivated and directed, can direct others. Demonstrated leadership ability * Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment * Advanced knowledge of health care and health care delivery systems * Advanced organization, planning and time management skills
