Summary
We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager charged with managing all aspects of the Commercial Aircraft Manufacturing Engineering Department providing support for Aircraft Group domestic and international manufacturing sites. You’ll act as a focal point for planning, organizing and directing continuous improvement activities and new application development.
Responsibilities
* Lead and coach engineering team to assess manufacturing challenges and implement innovative solutions for our processes, ongoing production and new product releases. * Create departmental strategic plans and tactics aligned with corporate goals, while managing a multi-million dollar annual departmental budget. * Evaluate the use of existing and future technology in producing reliable parts, participate in continuous improvement relating to quality assurance, cost reduction, make/buy, and effective manufacturing solutions. * Champion Design for Manufacture (DFM) practices through both new product introductions and LEAN based improvements to legacy processes and products. * Develop capital equipment justifications, evaluate options, select, procure, prove out and install equipment and tooling into Moog manufacturing operations. * When necessary, prepare and present manufacturing/fabrication capabilities of Moog to customers and/or potential customers. * Handle non-technical matters related to performance appraisals, wage reviews, hiring, and personnel. Based in East Aurora, NY, travel to other Aircraft Manufacturing Sites or worldwide in support of customer programs or capital equipment acquisitions is expected to be 30-40% of this position.
Ideal Candidate
* B.S. Degree (M.S. preferred) in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering. * Ten (10) years in fabrication (incl. estimating/planning) of complex precision components with a minimum of two (3) years supervising engineering personnel, or equivalent. * Thorough knowledge of Unigraphics and CAX systems, typical Bills of Material and fabrication methods. Solid understanding of manufacturing engineering and a broad understanding of contemporary processing and machining capabilities. * Demonstrated knowledge in LEAN philosophies and practiced applications in a manufacturing organization. * Minimum of five (5) years machining experience with advanced knowledge of machining operations and tolerances (GD&T). * Prefer detailed knowledge of a variety of machine tools including manual mills, lathes and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining centers (mills, lathes, grinders, mill-turn) * Excellent judgment, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
