Summary
Monolith Productions seeks a Lead Designer, UI for the Monolith Design department. The UI/UX Lead is responsible for leading a team of UI/UX developers including; UX designers, UI engineers, and UI artists in the creation and implementation of in game UI/UX assets of the highest quality. The UI/UX Lead is responsible for maintaining logical menu flow, high visual fidelity, and ensuring game information is presented in a clear and understandable manner. Candidate will work closely with Design leadership, Art leadership and UI team to design the functional and visual aspects of the game’s interface needs. This may also include UI workflow optimizations and development of new techniques for information presentation and visual display. The UI/UX Lead is also responsible with tasking (with production), feedback and direction to the UI/UX team, and mentorship to the UI/UX team ensuring that production goals are met.
Responsibilities
* Design and create UI/UX components as required - menus, stats and inventory screens, in-game HUD elements, etc.to set a quality bar for other designers and artists to follow. * Help design, construct, document and enforce pipelines to deliver competitive, cutting edge assets. * Create, document and communicate guidelines, directories and procedures. * Motivate, mentor and inspire UI team, guiding them through various stages of production with clear direction. * Regularly review UI/UX assets. * Assist the UI/UX engineers in the implementation of UI/UX components. * Coordinate and update production assignments for the UI/UX team. Accountable for UI team deliverables, ensuring that they meet the defined objectives, and scheduled requirements. * Evaluate competitive and innovative products and design approaches to indentify best practices and encourage innovation. * Provide rapid prototypes for frequent usability testing to evaluate and respond to usability data.
Ideal Candidate
* BA in art or related field or equivalent experience. * 8+ more years of game development art experience with 3+ years as a UI/UX Lead. * At least 2 published games preferably as Lead UI Designer/Artist on 360 or PS3. At least 1 title on Current Gen consoles. * Proven excellence in design and artistic judgment and skill. * Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally as well as visually. * Strong experience with fundamental user-centered, usability, and interaction design principles. * Advanced ability to conceive and document solutions through user flows, storyboards, wireframes, personas, prototypes, test cases, or written specifications and user stories. * Advanced visual design understanding with an awareness of the impact of typography, layout and composition, color theory, value structure, and visual hierarchy. * Advanced proficiency in industry tools including Adobe Creative Suite and other 2D packages. * Strong knowledge of one or more types of 3D software (Maya, 3DS Max is preferred). * Strong graphic design and excellent illustration skills. * Effective management and motivation of team members. * Strong understanding of game development process and associated pipelines. * Able to work collaboratively in a team environment, both taking and giving direction. * Able to work with designers, engineers, and artists to establish UI/UX designs and improve existing technology. * Able to work well under pressure and deadlines with minimal supervision. * High capacity to learn new tools and research potential technology. * Diligence with individual and team tasks, schedule and adherence to budget limitations. * Solid organization skills with adherence to optimization and asset management. * Positive attitude and a desire to bring new ideas to the team. * Traditional art skills and creativity a must. * Passion for making and playing great games, with an awareness of current titles and industry trends. * Portfolio/website demonstrating your art skills, design sensibilities, and attention to detail.
