Summary
It is the primary responsibility of the Sommelier to oversee all wine service in the specific outlet. The Sommelier will also oversee staff training, wine list maintenance, and wine inventory. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and property policies, practices, and procedures.
Responsibilities
* Maintain proper inventory levels of wines, other beverages, and supplies. * Order supplies through the IP System and Purchasing. * Eliminate waste by supervising employees on four levels, proper storage, etc. * Maintain appropriate beverage cost by managing purchasing and requisitions. * Train employees on wine and beverage service and knowledge. * Enforce proper beverage service standards of all employees during service. * Direct and engage in wine service during restaurant service hours. * Manage Infogenesis pricing/maintenance issues to ensure checks can be processed correctly. * Maintain clean, error-free wine lists by constantly updating and reprinting. * Meet regularly with the wine trade, to actively seek quality wines for the restaurant wine program. * Taste and evaluate wines and other beverages for potential purchase. * Maintain a level of professionalism that will make guests want to return. * Anticipate the guests' needs and respond appropriately with a sense of urgency. * Work as a team member, assisting all guests and employees needs and inquiries. * Effectively communicate with management, chefs and culinary staff in order to fulfill and address any issues or needs requested by guests and or other employees. * Perform all other job-related duties as requested.
Ideal Candidate
**Required** * At least 4 years of service experience in a similar dining environment. * Working knowledge of health and safety regulations. * Working knowledge of Point of Sale (POS) systems and operations. * Working knowledge of wines, other beverages, and their proper service. * Excellent customer service skills. * Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts. * Professional appearance and demeanor. * Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays. * High school diploma or equivalent. * Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms. **Preferred** * Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Course strongly recommended. * Advanced Diploma or Master Sommelier Diploma from CMS highly preferred. * Previous experience working in a similar resort setting.
