Summary
R&D Product Development Manager. This is a retained, confidential search for a space product supplier setting up a greenfield operation Silicon Valley. You will be one of the first few employees in a startup environment focused on producing next-generation products for communications satellites and will report directly to the CTO of the company. Responsibility includes leadership of the R&D teams which will focus on Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSP's to include RF/Microwave including mechanical and power board design and test). You will have very heavy input into the selection of your engineering team. Experience building such teams is looked upon favorably.
Responsibilities
* Interface with global R&D centers, academic partners, industrial partners, and actively managing, reviewing, and providing design support for joint development projects * Define detailed specifications for the products to be developed * Develop designs utilizing suitable commercial components that are able to operate reliably in the space radiation environment * Design and implement a test campaign around space product requirements * Project management, including creating and baselining a development schedule, identification of key milestones with go/no-go criteria on at least a semi-annual basis to decide whether to continue individual product projects, to including budgeting
Ideal Candidate
**Required Experience:** * MS Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or Computer Engineering * 5-10 years experience in Design Engineering * 5-10 years progressive experience in Engineering Management * Experience in a space, telecomm, or semiconductor industry * Proven examples of product development **Desired Experience:** * Startup or early-stage R&D development; to include the formation and development of risk-taking engineering teams * Ability to work in a customer facing environment which allows for identification of main market opportunities * Working knowledge of the space environment and industry * Hands-on experience with products developed for space or other rugged environments * Demonstrated project management experience
