As a suburban community of 9 square miles with a rich, historic, New England heritage, Longmeadow offers a beautiful and wholesome residential setting along the Connecticut River for a population of approximately 16,000 people. There is no industry within the town limits. The community is a pleasant, old New England town characterized by stately colonial homes, tree-shaded streets, and parks with swimming pools, tennis courts, and playgrounds.
Responsibilities
- PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE - Continuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities; share information and knowledge with other teachers; apply the best research in the design and development of school curriculum. - Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques. - PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION - Set short-term and year-long goals for curricular units based on sound principles and practices of learning. - Develop and maintain lesson plans based on short-term and year-long goals and share when appropriate. - USE OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT - Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase student learning. - EFFECTIVENESS OF INSTRUCTION - Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all students achieve those standards. - Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives. - Assist with data collection, eligibility criteria and student selection - LEARNING ENVIRONMENT - Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among students and with the teacher, and practices and routines which create an appropriate learning environment. - Design instructional experiences in which students achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning. - EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS - Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards. - Participate actively in team/department/staff meetings. - CONTRIBUTIONS TO STUDENTS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM - Be available for student and/or parent conferences. - CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SCHOOL AND/OR TEACHING PROFESSION - Work collaboratively to identify areas for school improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results. - ENFORCEMENT AND COMPLIANCE WITH SCHOOL REGULATIONS - Observe and implement the rules and regulations established for the school system.
Ideal Candidate
- Meet Massachusetts state certification requirements - Knowledgeable of Massachusetts Common Core Frameworks - Educational preparation relevant to area of instruction. - Such other qualifications or alternatives as the Principal and Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. 5. Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
