Summary
The Production Process Engineer will support plant process optimization efforts through mechanical design, process improvement and cost reduction projects, employing engineering, LEAN and Six Sigma tools. The Production Process Engineer will works directly with the Value Stream Manager (VSM) on a day-to day basis for strategic direction and technical support. The intent behind this position is to provide the Value Stream Management Team direct technical support to resolve operational issues and implement process improvements.
Responsibilities
* Perform process analysis, system design, reliability analysis, mechanical design, problem solving and project management * Responsible for insuring product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished-products and process capabilities * Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends, and preparing data reports * Review daily production performance and work with the Value Stream Manager and Specialist to determine immediate actions that may be needed to address daily performance problems * Work with the Value Stream team members to define long-term improvements in process, methods, equipment and machinery * Provide technical assistance in evaluating production data and reporting, including productivity, job efficiency, quality, downtime, cost, etc. * Act as the primary contact between Engineering and Production, to implement item or process improvements * Assist in the coordination of new product sampling * Participate in events and provides technical assistance for LEAN activities including machine repair, production, machine shop and cold end production * Provide recommendations regarding machine maintenance or enhancements, to increase machine performance and reduce downtime * Assist in coordinating machine rebuilds and provide technical assistance to machine repair * Evaluate and recommend improvements to changeover procedures, the COST team and machine repair * Evaluate mold equipment issues, provide analysis and recommendations for actionable improvements * Develop Standard Operating Procedures and standard work for value stream activities to ensure process stability and consistency * Use currently accepted problem analysis techniques employing tools from LEAN and Six Sigma * Facilitate necessary meetings and represent the Value Stream Manager as needed * Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
Ideal Candidate
* 5+ years’ experience with Mechanical design and Manufacturing Processes * Engineering Degree, Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing preferred * Broad based Engineering knowledge and excellent computer skills including CAD (AutoCad, Solidworks), MS Word, Excel and Access * Experience with SPC, LEAN and Six Sigma tools, preferred * Machining knowledge/experience is a plus * Solid foundational experience with mechanical design, including detail parts, assemblies, tolerances and materials * Must be a hands-on individual, willing to work in all areas of the manufacturing plant and capable of solving problems both on the floor and in design * Keen eye for continuous improvement in all aspects of the job * Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
