Summary
Responsible for directing and controlling distribution center activities to ensure the efficient and economical utilization of personnel and facilities for receiving, storing and distributing finished goods inventories. Supervises direct work of: Supervisory, Inventory Control and Clerical associates. Also, responsible for aligning 3PL staffing needs to meet daily operating requirements. Responsible for ensuring that WTI operations achieve all cost targets through meeting Key Performance Indicator’s (KPI’s) to the agreed budget and standards. Oversee, evaluate and provide training/guidance to distribution center associates while maintaining a clean, safe and orderly warehouse. The goal is to ensure productivity targets are achieved and that all warehouse processes are running smoothly and promptly. The Warehouse Manager has to make sure that any equipment supplied to employees is safe and usable, whilst maintaining control of stock and inventory, ultimately making them pivotal within the logistics sector. Warehouse managers oversee the safe receipt, storage, retrieval and timely dispatch of goods. They ensure workplace health and safety requirements are met and take responsibility for the security of the building and stock.
Responsibilities
- Direct the operation of the WTI distribution facilities to meet financial, strategic and performance goals, while servicing customer requirements and expectations in a professional and timely manner. - Responsible for Temporary Agency relationship for operations associates. Assure agency contractual obligations including responsiveness, associate quality, quantity, and cost targets are being realized. - Responsible to understand the needs and values of the customer, and anticipate and plan for changes in their requirements through development of a close working partnership Libbey Customer Relations Team. - Ensures all jobs are conducted in accordance with standard work instructions and compliance guidelines. - Make innovative recommendations to the Supply Chain Management to cut costs, improve quality or increase productivity. - Coordinates activities and teams with other Libbey operations to facilitate efficient warehouse operations. - Maintain accurate inventory control procedures to ensure proper storage and space utilization. Work to maintain Libbey’s 98% accuracy goal for Finished Goods inventory. - Assist with budget development for WTI operations, and ensure operation within approved budget. - Maintain operation metrics and recognition of departmental performance (cost per case, inventory accuracy, on-time shipment, budget adherence, etc.). - Responsible to manage in a cost effective manner all building, grounds, and equipment maintenance. - Conduct Performance Reviews with department associates with emphasis on associate involvement and development. - Maintain and promote good industrial and associate relations on-site and ensure that potential problems are resolved at an early stage. - Promote a culture that ensures all requirements relating to loss control, health and safety and hygiene are complied with and enhanced in all areas of the warehouse. Oversee the implementation and compliance of safety policies and procedures, including monthly safety meetings - Performs other duties and assignments as directed by management. - Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. - Complies with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. - Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols. - Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system. - Maintains physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement. - Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. - Completes warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results. - Maintains warehouse staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training associates. - Maintains warehouse staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining associates; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. - Strategically manage warehouse in compliance with company’s policies and vision. - Oversee receiving, warehousing, distribution and maintenance operations. - Setup layout and ensure efficient space utilization. - Initiate, coordinate and enforce optimal operational policies and procedures. - Adhere to all warehousing, handling and shipping legislation requirements. - Maintain standards of health and safety, hygiene and security. - Manage stock control and reconcile with data storage system. - Liaise with clients, suppliers and transport companies. - Recruit, select, orient, coach and motivate associates. - Able to deal with general management and strategic planning whilst also able to involve themselves in practical work on the warehouse floor. - Ensure employees are regularly briefed, supervised, and trained. - Ensure any machinery or vehicles are maintained, upholding health, safety and security in the work place at all times. - Take regular stock of the inventory, keeping systems up to date by producing regular reports, and planning for future capacity requirements. - Regularly communicate with distributors, suppliers, employees and head office to ensure quality and delivery standards are upheld. - Motivating, organizing and encouraging teamwork within the workforce to ensure set productivity targets are met. - Training staff and monitoring their performance and progress. - Communicating with other departments, staff groups and customers. - Overseeing stock control and processing orders. - Ensuring quality, delivery and budget objectives are met. - Delivering and fulfilling objectives and directions from the operation's headquarters. - Responding to and dealing with customer communication by email, fax and telephone. - Keeping stock control systems up to date and planning future capacity requirements. - Producing regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. - Briefing team leaders on the issues for that particular day. - Visiting customers to monitor the quality of service they are receiving. - Ensuring the health, safety, cleanliness and security of the work environment. - Overseeing the planned maintenance of vehicles, machinery and equipment. - Manage teams of workers and deal with associate issues such as the recruitment, training and discipline of staff. Some managers also oversee picking, packing and distribution activity. - In large storage operations, managers have a more strategic role and deal with planning, administration and general management issues, which will include the day-to-day supervision of staff, and overseeing work organized by team leaders (who then report to the manager).
Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 5 years of warehousing/distribution experience. - Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management or related field. - Effective logistics experience in warehouse layout, inventory management, logistics knowledge, Warehouse Management System, and 3PL experience preferred. - Supervision, Developing Budgets, Safety Management, Developing Standards, Managing Processes, Surveillance Skills, Inventory Control, Reporting Skills, Analyzing Information , Equipment Maintenance, Judgment. - Expertise in warehouse management procedures and best practices. - Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives. - Strong knowledge of warehousing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). - Hands on experience with warehouse management software and databases. - Leadership skills and ability manage staff. - Strong decision making and problem solving skill. - Excellent communication skills. - Ability to motivate a workforce and encourage strong teamwork. **Qualifications:** - Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. - Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. - Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one situation to other employees in the organization as well as communicate effectively on the phone. - Ability to communicate in a courteous manner with good grammar and without the use of profanity. - Bilingual is preferred. - Ability commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
