Summary
State Directors of Risk Management are responsible for identifying, investigating, analyzing, and evaluating risks, which may create business-related liability, professional liability, general liability, worker's compensation, and other liability exposures. Promotes collaboration among all divisions, departments, services and patient care professionals within the organization and stimulates the development, review and revision of the organization's practices and protocols in light of identified risks and chosen loss prevention and reduction strategies.
Responsibilities
* Participates in the event management process and coordinates the communication of outcomes including apology and disclosure. * Reports potential claims, unexpected outcomes and patient compliants to liability claims. * Independently assesses risk management needs for all lines of business across the enterprise. * Develops and coordinates risk management education and training for employees. * Coordinates and/or participates in conference calls with appropriate leadership to review risk management trends including but not limited to professional liability claims, event trends, ADR results and operational risk. * Under direction of counsel, conducts on-site investigations. * Maintains educational and intervention activity in a confidential data base. * Participates in district and regional meetings (ex .Performance Improvement, Operational reviews). * Intervenes with residents, patients and families to resolve concerns/complaints regarding risk management issues. * Enhancing environmental safety for patients, visitors and staff through participation in environment of care-related activities.
Ideal Candidate
**Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:** * Strong clinical and/or operations background, preferably in long-term care. * Knowledge of state regulations. * Effective facilitation and communication skills to deal with personnel and families on sensitive issues. * Excellent investigative skills. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Excellent presentation skills. * Excellent conflict resolution skills. * Approximate percent of time required to travel: 75%. **Qualifications:** * Education: * Bachelor's Degree in healthcare related field, nursing preferred * Licenses/Certification: * BSN preferred * CPHRM preferred but not required * Experience: * 2-5 years relevant experience in nursing or risk management and liability claims * Depending on a candidate's qualifications, this position may be filled at a different level.
