Lead Counselor

The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco is the oldest Jewish center on the West Coast, providing educational, social, cultural and fitness programs to the community since 1877. Open to all, with the mission of building and preserving Jewish identity, JCCSF programs and services.

JCCSF Summer Camps is now hiring a Lead Counselor for our Teen Trip and Travel program! Each week you will lead a group of San Francisco middle school-aged campers on various field trips around the Bay Area. Each week is individually designed, including a 2-day camping trip, a week of community service, and eight additional weeks of programming. The ideal candidate will have a strong background working with children in a camp setting, experience driving a van with children as passengers, and experience leading outdoor programs with youth. The program runs from June 6 to August 19, with a week of staff training May 30 - June 3. Additional hours are available for program preparation.

* Organize and implement daily programming. * Supervise Teen Trip and Travel program staff. * Maintain safe and appropriate environment for middle school campers. * Develop positive relationships with campers' parents * Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors. * Drive campers on field trips * Maintain van driving logs, cleanliness and maintenance forms * Model appropriate behavior for campers. * Additional responsibilities as required.

* Experience leading youth programs, especially programs for middle school-aged children. * Experience with outdoor education, camping, and challenge courses. * Experience supervising staff. * Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral. * Knowledge of summer camps. * Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently. * Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise is a must. * Must be 21 years or older. * Must have clean driving record. * Lifeguard certification a plus.
