Director of Engineering

Imgur is the world’s largest image-sharing community and the best place to share and enjoy the most awesome images on the internet. Every day, millions of people visit Imgur to be entertained and inspired by funny, heartwarming and helpful images and stories from all around the world.

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to lead web and backend product development at Imgur. This Director will develop services that power the backbone of the product as well as manage a growing team of up to 15 engineers.

You will work closely with our CEO (who is also an engineer), VP of Engineering, VP of Product and your team on key technology and product decisions that will scale Imgur. We currently use PHP, Go, node.js, Javascript, React, MySQL, Redis and HBase in our stack. If you are more of an expert in other languages like Java or C/C++, no worries, we won’t hold it against you as we are looking for an engineering leader who is open to new technologies and wants to continue introducing new technologies to our stack.

• Experience in a senior engineering management role
• Work closely with our VP of Engineering to set strategic initiatives, goals and metrics
• 7-10+ years experience building software at massive scale
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Passion for leading teams, setting vision, and developing highly functioning organizations
• Deep understanding of how to build scalable distributed systems.
• Enjoy coding as this with be 25% hands on; you’ll work on some of our most innovative products like personalization and collections
• Working on products which serve millions of users every day
• Experience working on a consumer product or startup a plus
