Backup Administration Engineer

Guggenheim is seeking an exceptional Backup Administration Engineer to join its data center. Reporting to the Managing Director, this person will join a hands-on team responsible for backup and storage infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong maintenance and change management skills and experience in the financial sector. The successful candidate will have experience with Disaster Recovery and be comfortable interacting in a customer-service oriented environment.

* Engage in engineering phases of backup software and related storage solutions delivery including planning, design, build, testing, and transition to operational support * Perform backup software installations, system software maintenance and product upgrades in a 24x7 high availability environment * Work hand-in-hand with software development, DBA and systems teams to ensure production systems are backed up and maintained in optimal configuration * Work closely with various internal teams and auditors to generate timely audit reports * Provide input to analysis, design and direction regarding performance management and capacity planning services with regard to backup infrastructure and related processes * Monitor production environment and take corrective action * Propose and drive changes and improvements to ensure optimum performance and reliability according to established IT performance metrics. * Participate in regular Disaster Recovery and failover testing for the virtual and physical environments utilizing various backup technologies such as Symantec Netbackup or BackupExec, EMC AppSync, RecoverPoint and DataDomain technologies * Document configurations and maintain documentation to be utilized by the infrastructure team. * Periodically inventory equipment and manage build materials * Adhere to existing data center installation best practices and provide input on site specific best practices as necessary * Install / decommission backup software and other related IT equipment in the data center * Troubleshoot all system issues and incoming support requests * Support any legacy backup environments (e.g. SyncSort, Commvault, Networker) * Must be willing to work weekend hours and within set maintenance schedules

* 5 + years of relevant, hands-on experience in Enterprise Backup and Recovery utilizing EMC Data Domain, Quantum tape libraries, EMC VTL, NDMP Backups, Veritas Netbackup, Vertias BackupExec, Azure Backup, Netbackup Ops Center;Enterprise Disaster Recovery experience strongly preferred * 3 + years of relevant, hands-on experience with Windows administration, Microsoft management tools including SCOM, 2008 Active Directory and DFSR * At least 2+ year of experience in support of clustering technologies with the Windows operating system running SQL ServerGood, understanding of the automation tools and scripting including PowerShell * Strong maintenance and change management skills * Experience in supporting large mission critical apps on physical and VMware platforms including Exchange 2013, SQL 2012 and 2008, SharePoint 2013 * Self-motivated and able to meet objectives with little or no direct supervision * Excellent interpersonal skills with strong customer service experience * Maintenance and administration of infrastructure in a 24x7 high availability environment utilizing various monitoring systems including ViPR, SCOM, NetScout, HP NNM, syslog and others * Available to travel to New Jersey and other domestic data centers (up to 20% of work time) * Experience in financial sector is preferred * Linux experience is a plus
