* This role will work with software, research, and business teams to conduct user and stakeholder research to inform the design of the next generation of product, service and brand experiences for GE.
* You will work with other designers, software architects, developers, engineers, marketers and business leaders in an investigative research setting to create and communicate a deep understanding the needs of users of the Industrial Internet and associated technical systems.
* You will also work with business leaders and commercial marketers to better understand GE's customers and product users, and with designers from GE and some of the world's best design firms to help design the way GE connects with people through software and other types of interactive industrial experiences.
**In this role, you will:**
* Be responsible for creating the future of software for GE and identify great interaction design as a priority in the success of our research programs
* Collaborate with visual designers and user interface developers to execute user research and design activities for software and related technical research programs
* Work alongside researchers and product development partners, compare and contrast various design solutions and approaches while taking technical, resource, and time constraints into account
* Be a core member of a dynamic, fast-paced global research team focused on software to enable research and the Industrial Internet
* Work on research project teams across different technology organizations to successfully define, create, and execute strategic research projects based on customer and business value
* Will also liaise with GE's Software Center of Excellence and fellow Software Systems Lab members, collaboratively focused on leveraging and growing GE's software presence across multiple technical research domains
* Research and define patterns and libraries that support a well-designed user interface on all of GE's software products. Work with various research teams to support adoption of these practices in the research environment
* Multitask and contribute to multiple projects in a dynamic cross-functional applied research organization driving New Technology Introductions (NTIs)
* Participate in and contribute to the effective documentation and communication of interaction design, via wireframes, mockups, and requirements engineering
* Clearly and professionally display the ability to work with internal clients and SW/design teams, create and maintain global design systems, and further the GE brand through a variety of research oriented efforts
* Be part of GE's User Experience Center of Excellence, a leading organization dedicated to leveraging digital technologies to drive revenue and customer value for GE's software lines of business
* Work with some of the best external digital agencies and internal technology leaders in enhancing GE's software and brand portfolio to enable applied research projects
* Act as a member of the UX Center of Excellence, representing the face of high quality design practices. This includes participation in all aspects of UX: research, ideation, strategy, interaction design and visual designIn addition, you will:
* Act as a contributor to the UX Center of Excellence, representing the face of high quality design practices (This includes participation in all aspects of UX: research, ideation, strategy, interaction design and visual design)
* Be a subject matter expert in the area of design research, service design and design strategy, contribute to GE best practices in these areas
* Work with business leaders, marketers, product management, architecture and engineering to contribute as a team member to planning and detail executing to create a new generation of GE products and services
* Research and define patterns related to user needs, mental models and usage context
