Summary
This position is for a Senior Development Manager who will be responsible for building the top-tier SDN integrations for our F5 Orchestration and Cloud platform, including BIG-IQ. The Senior Manager will collaborate with Product Management, Business Development, Technical Program Managers, Field, Sales, and Architects, and Product Development (Dev and Test). This Senior Manager should have proven experience in cross-functional communication, roadmap and strategy management, thrive on agile and customer-driven requirements. This Senior Manager will be working directly with F5 partners to build joint solutions and technology roadmaps. This is a growing team and business, so the Senior Manager will be able to build a new team to meet emerging needs and opportunities.
Responsibilities
* Build/manage a development team, foster team growth and manage team project deliverables. * Operate in a fast-paced, agile, and dynamic release environment * Effectively lead team through design and development by providing technical and logistical direction and support to development team * Collaborate with Test and Support teams to ensure high-quality automated test, verification and release processes * Work with F5 industry partners to define technology and architectural roadmaps * Efficiently communicate/collaborate with San Jose, Seattle & other remote teams, conforming to F5 PD culture/standards/guidelines. * Periodic travel will be required to Seattle (F5 headquarters) for Development and Strategy coordination * Coordinate and collaborate with the release project team to ensure team and project deliverables are met, on time and of high quality. * Foster innovation, creativity, collaboration, and professional growth of direct reports. * Evaluate performance of direct-reports and assist them in creating career development plans. * Participate in defining new software architectures, products and solutions. * Monitor and coordinate activities of key vendors/partners through regular meetings. * Research, investigate and define new areas of technology from across the Technology industry to enhance existing products or new product directions * Identify creations which can be patented and assist in patent applications. * Maintain strong standards, and promote productivity, accountability and high morale.
Ideal Candidate
**Qualifications** * A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or electrical engineering; Master's degree is preferred. * 7 years’ experience or more in datacenter automation, orchestration, distributed computing and web services development * A proven track record of results in both software development and in managing a great engineering team. * Proven experience managing UI developers, Server-side developers, and DevOps * Proven ability to build a team, foster team growth, and manage team project deliverables. * Proven experience building joint solutions across multiple companies * Proven experience managing cross-functional organizations (Technical Program Management, Development, and Test) * Passion, technical knowledge and instincts to effectively lead team through design and development. * Well versed with various software engineering practices, and passion for continuous improvements of software development processes. * Demonstrated strengths in verbal and written communication skills. * Strong organizational skills. Ability to work well with a wide variety of contacts in various business disciplines. * Proven experience developing solutions and platforms for datacenter automation. * Able to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced high-performance environment. **Desired Skills** * Experience with SDN technologies, including OpenStack, OpenFlow, VMware NSX, Cisco ACI, Juniper Contrail, and Open Daylight * Knowledge of extensible API and infrastructure design highly desired. * Experience designing or deploying geo-scale datacenter monitoring and management. * Experience working with distributed test automation frameworks (e.g. NUnit, JUnit, Bugzilla/Testopia, etc.) * Experience with Test-Driven Development, Scrum, Agile and/or Pair-Programming * Networking knowledge – including development experience at L4-L7 **Physical Demands and Work Environment** * Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. * Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material. * Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends). * Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, approximately 10% of the time spent traveling.
