Director of Data Engineering

In this role you will take full ownership of our big data infrastructure and engineering team. The Data Engineering team is small and nimble but ensures the stability, scalability, and performance of our entire big data ecosystem – including data collection, pipelines, ETLs, and our downstream warehouse and MPP platforms. The team works closely with our data scientists, analysts, and product managers to determine the best ways to expose our massive amounts of data for mining in an efficient and effective manner. The position requires strong team leadership and development, an expert understanding of the big data space and where it is headed, an ability to solve complex problems on the go, and a track record of delivering high quality and useful systems in a fast-paced environment. You'll work closely with company stakeholders and product managers to ensure that our data systems are empowering our product vision.

* Provide technical direction and set the strategic roadmap for our big data infrastructure. This includes data capture, movement, warehousing, and all interconnects. Current tech stack includes Kafka, Vertica, HDFS, and Spark among others. * Day-to-day leadership for the team with a focus on employee development and growth. * Restructure, reassign, and hire engineers as needed to bring your vision into focus. * Playing a key role in connecting your engineering team with other engineering, product, and infrastructure teams.

* At least 5 years experience working in a leadership capacity. * Expert in big data end-to-end infrastructure and ecosystem best practices. * Solid understanding of security and performance at scale. * Can foster and grow teams with top-notch skill-sets. * Superb communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
