Summary
The Automation team at Counsyl is where the clinical lab, software engineering, assay development, and advanced robotics all come together to make something truly unique. They are tasked with designing, building and maintaining the most advanced clinical diagnostics laboratory platform in the world. As an Automation Equipment Service Engineer, you will be be responsible for keeping the platform in peak condition as it continues to expand in capabilities and capacity to meet the demands of the genomics revolution.
Responsibilities
* Primary focus is on equipment management. Manage all spare parts inventories, contracts, asset allocation responsibilities with finance, vendor management and scheduling, maintenance task review and completion, JIRA ticket review and completion. * Accountable for the top tier troubleshooting and root cause investigation to service and repair multiple integrated robotic work cells in our NGS genomics CLIA laboratory. * Act as a first responder for troubleshooting any repairs or recoveries on all instrumentation. * Provide the highest quality of service and support to our regulated clinical laboratory (CLIA). * Participate on various working teams within automation to develop our next generation instrumentation work cells, new platform migrations and next generation scripts to expand our ever growing CLIA lab. * Completion of a 6 week formal classroom training program to enable you to support highly sophisticated equipment. * Develop, optimize and troubleshoot liquid handling processes on multiple instrument platforms (Tecan/Bravo/Beckman). * Interface with CLIA lab personnel providing the highest level of professional service and support. * Execute regular maintenance and calibration tasks to keep robotics and instrumentation running at peak performance. * Generate various automation SOP documentation for training and support. * Cover on-call responsibilities, that may include weekends and night shifts as needed. * Maintain the most advanced laboratory technology in molecular diagnostics in the bay area.
Ideal Candidate
* You should have a B.S. in Engineering / Science (or equivalent) and/or independent experience servicing or working with complex laboratory instrumentation. You should have 1+ years of experience working in a related field. * Experience with inventory upkeep and vendor management. * Hardware and Scientific Instrument Experience * Proven involvement with manual tasks / willing to get things doneInstrument problem solving / troubleshooting/ root cause * Knowledge of or previous experience with liquid handlers a big plus * Experience with scientific instrumentation is a requirement * liquid handlers (tecan/beckman/bravo preferred) * plate readers * sequencers * Thermocyclers * Staublis * Software * Scientific instrumentation software experience a must (Python) * Familiar with computers, can quickly become an advanced user of new software * Software troubleshooting experience is a plus * Command line proficiency is a plus * Engineering / R&D * Small project manufacturing experience is a plus (Mechanical assemblies, PCB mounting) * CAD experience is a plus * Reliability testing experience is a plus * Project Management * Independently driven * Ability to prioritize * Clinical Lab Experience * SOP writing experience is a plus * CLIA experience is a plus
