Cloudera is looking for technically experienced SQL query engine optimization experts with strong programming/development experience to work with Customers, Partners, Product Managers, Cloudera Engineers, and Cloudera Technical pre-sales and post-sales field members. This person will work on critical global accounts as a Subject Matter Expert on the Impala Query Engine, optimization of queries, and data storage strategies. This person will interact closely with Cloudera Engineering to provide valuable optimization feedback from customers that will make its way back into the Impala product. This role requires this expert to deliver patches to the Impala project. The role entails strong troubleshooting skills, ability to resolve problems with a lot of people working together, SQL and query engine expertise. Experience with Big Data, Impala, Hive, and the Enterprise Data Hub is a huge plus.

* DB query engine optimization expert * SQL language and set theory expert * Understands at least 1 traditional RDBMS system’s query engine at a deep level * Analyze SQL queries in traditional RDBMS systems and optimize them for re-use in a Hadoop eco-system * Able to map a relational schema into a HIVE, Impala format for BI consumption * Able to understand RDBMS queries and convert them to Hadoop based storage artifacts * Ideally, experience tuning Impala queries. * Understands data formats including data types, compressed storage formats, columnar formats. * Provide feedback based on experience with Global Strategic Customers and their requirements. Provide prototyped optimizations, scalability enhancements, and help the product team prioritize these improvements.

* 5+ years of SQL query analysis experience * Strong troubleshooting skills * 1 or more: Oracle, Netezza, SQL Server, Teradata, DB2, Sybase etc experience * 1 or more: C/C++/Java programming experience * ELT [Extra, Load, Transform] * JDBC/ODBC driver knowledge * ETL tool experience: Talend, Pentaho, Informatica, ODI etc * BI Tool Experience: Tableau, Qlikview, Cognos, Microstrategy * Moderate to advanced understanding of I/O concepts of networking and disk access. **Good to have skills:** * PL-SQL experience * Understanding of: Cloudera EDH, HDFS, YARN, HIVE, Impala, HBase * Understanding of file formats: AVRO, Parquet, protocol buffers **Soft skills:** * Comfortable presenting to a large audience [both online and in-person] * Comfortable articulating technical problems at a business value level * Ability to lead in-person and remote troubleshooting sessions with various stakeholders including administrators, developers, and architects. **Travel requirements:** * 50% travel, mostly within a major geographic territory (One person each for EMEA, NORAM, APAC, Antarctica). * Travel requirements may reduce as remote troubleshooting and optimization proves effective. * Cloudera is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
