Summary
Cloudera is looking for a Director level product manager to lead the Impala query engine team. Impala is Cloudera’s primary growth driver and the most widely adopted additional component in Cloudera’s enterprise data hub. As the Director of Product for Impala you will be involved in all aspects of the product lifecycle from development through marketing, business development partnerships, pre- and post sales. The ideal person for this position will be an experienced product manager with both strong technical capabilities in databases or distributed systems as well as demonstrated experience in working with sales prospects, customers, and partners. The candidate must be motivated, take initiative, be a team player, and be able to scale with a fast-growing engineering team.
Responsibilities
* Product design: functional analysis that identifies the best options for compelling, easy to use software * Engineering engagement: close partnership with engineering to understand technical trade-offs and architecture in order to successfully influence product design * Developing product & market strategy: researching market segments, assessing competitive differentiation, creating decision frameworks, formulating hypotheses & advocating direction * Prioritization: relentless prioritization across several competing objectives to make the optimal use of time and resources * Customer research: in person and virtual interviews to understand users, priorities and design considerations * Launch & promotion: prepare conference presentations, train partners and support sales opportunities. * Organizational leadership: work with customers, support, and engineering teams to handle and resolve any critical customer issues that arise with our product
Ideal Candidate
* Technical acumen - Computer Science degree and product management experience at an engineering company required. Product and/or engineering experience in database internals and/or distributed systems internals * High energy – keeps a fast pace and encourages others to keep up with them * Business judgment – someone who is constantly able to assess the top priorities for the product and for their own time * Persistence – can visualize what a win looks like and won’t accept less than that * Structured thinking – organizes questions, issues & ideas into logically consistent frameworks that quickly generate defensible conclusions from limited amounts of data * Attention to detail – keep focus on a bug or design issue until everyone’s satisfied they’ve found the optimal solution * Maturity & presence – can earn respect in an executive audience that may include customers, Cloudera employees or Cloudera investors
