Summary
Directs the safety programs and initiatives for the Consumer Packaging Division. Responsible for planning, developing and coordinating the safety and occupational health components of behaviors, personnel, materials, equipment, and environments to achieve safety effectiveness for the company.
Responsibilities
**Essential Functions and Responsibilities** * Manages all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Caraustar accounting policies and financial control procedures. Ensures that Subordinates are trained and aware of the requirements of the Caraustar Standards of Business Conduct Policy. * Leads the CPG divisional safety council and assures all initiatives are leveraged across all facilities while working directly with the site GM’s and site safety leads. * Is viewed as a role model for safety by managers and hourly personnel * Ensures that the behavioral based observations are the foundation of the safety program and audits all site quarterly for effectiveness and continuous improvement. * Responsible for the weekly distribution of the safety man and wheel and communication of all near misses, incidents, and injuries. * Standardizes the training across the division and ensures compliance to all OSHA and company required training. * Conducts safety assessments to ensure that all facilities are upholding safety standards and OSHA compliance. * Leads and guides the divisional initiatives specifically around the key six areas of focus; New Employee Orientation, Hand Safety, Non-Routine Tasks, Energy Isolation, Powered Industrial Trucks, and Slips/Trips/Falls. * Involved in all incident investigations across the division, provides the most appropriate strategy to remove the inherent risks, and ensures all similar operations across the division have leveraged the preventative action. * Develops implements and manages safety programs, policies and procedures. * Ensures that federal, state and local safety laws, regulations, codes and rules are observed. * Ensures that OSHA and Caraustar recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met. * Monitors activities where incidents could occur, halting any operation or activity that constitutes an imminent hazard to personnel or equipment. * Assists in the activities of the safety committee by providing technical and administrative support. * Performs presentations regarding safety awareness; conducts training classes. * Responsible for the safety coordinator responsibilities in the Chicago Carton facility. * Work closely with the Caraustar’s Corporate Safety Professional on corporate initiatives and standardization of training and processes across all business units. **Other Responsibilities** * Comply in all respects with the provisions of the Caraustar Standards of Business Conduct Policy required.
Ideal Candidate
**Qualifications** * Proficiency with Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook. * Working knowledge of Company safety policies, procedures, and regulations. * First Responder certified. * Supervisory and leadership skills. * Meeting, presentation, and facilitator skills. * Ability to think outside the box. **Education/Experience** * Bachelor's degree, preferably in safety engineering or 4 plus years’ experience in an industrial company with occupational safety responsibilities required. * Strong persuasive skills in dealing with top, middle and lower management. * Ability to organize safety and occupational health material into lesson plans; present the material to managers effectively. * Ability to efficiently and effectively train on how to perform in the safest environment possible.
