About Bounce Exchange
Bounce Exchange is bad ass. Computer World ranked us as the #1 tech company to work for in the United States in terms of employee retention and career development. Crain's and Internet Week agreed and ranked us in their respective groups of the top places to work for in NYC.
Summary
We're looking to add a special type of engineer to our team – we need someone to hack our office. This person is not going to spend their day restarting computers or juggling blue screens of death; instead they’ll run the software that does it for them (all of us). As the first designated infrastructure hire in our office, our Office Hacker will manage and maintain the services that power our team. DevOps but with a human touch. The ideal candidate has configured networks and built computers, but works smart. You're helpful by nature, too; you've automated yourself out of most IT tasks and recurring problems, but don't mind occasionally rescuing someone who's bricked their phone or laptop. As more services shift toward the cloud-- or whatever you call it-- you also find yourself diving into software more than hardware. You can still probably overcome any technical challenge without breaking a sweat. But if you do break a sweat, it’s cool-- we have cold brew on tap.
Responsibilities
* Test automation, security verification, and continuous performance monitoring * Automate recurring IT tasks and innovate our existing processes * Improve networking & security infrastructure * Build a system to support office continuity (backup, restore, disaster recovery) * Monitor backup systems and procedures to ensure data security and durability * Keep an accurate record of documents, problems and solutions for future reference * Gather necessary data for issue replication, problem determination, and escalation * Own inventory management & set up new workstations/laptops for employees * Diagnose and resolve hardware and network issues * Monitor office network and firewall bandwidth/capacity * Manage software versioning and installation (automatic upgrades) * Tinker with some of our unique office features: our mechanized window-shade system, our lighting system, etc.
Ideal Candidate
* Real-world experience-- ideally, a mix of IT experience and system administration or developer operations * Proactive engagement in continuous process improvement * Natural planner & problem solver with a strong attention to detail * Knowledge of AWS or cloud resources * Security & networking experience * Hands-on scripting experience & some code literacy * Familiarity with configuration management systems; Ansible is a plus * Startup experience is a plus
