Summary
The Derivatives Operations Accountant The Derivatives Operations Accountant is primarily responsible for performing critical internal control and settlement activities. These activities include confirmation of new derivative positions with external counterparties, reconciliation of outstanding positions and preparation of reports that support the customer hedging program. Understand the contract and each position to ensure we are not taking on additional market risk.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze daily and monthly reconciliation of open derivative positions between internal records and third party documentation. Identify all differences and resolve with traders and Risk Management within established time standards. - Prepare, analyze, distribute and track written daily confirmation of all new derivative positions. Understand all contracts and the terms of each “position” to ensure we are not taking on additional market risk. Ensure all confirmations are received and all discrepancies are cleared within established time periods through clear and precise communication with internal and external parties. - Prepare, analyze and distribute monthly position reports to non-dealer customers; coordinate customer reporting requests with risk management; prepares customer specific reporting needs as determined or assigned by the Finance Department - Prepare, analyze and distribute accurate settlement advices for interest rate contracts that conform to established time standards. - Maintain payment instructions and other customer profile data necessary to support the settlement process.
Ideal Candidate
- Strong knowledge of financial derivatives practices and terminology. - Strong accounting and reconciliation skills with extreme attention to detail. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and database software with strong Excel skills * This level of knowledge is normally acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or Accounting and 4+ years related accounting experience. * Relevant experience with derivatives, securities or compliance in a financial institution or equivalent business experience is preferred.
