You have a proven track record of delivering effective and engaging copy as a copywriter. You passionately believe that words matter. You’ll fight for the verb of your choice, but you know when good is good enough. Whether you love or hate the Oxford comma, you have a strong opinion about it. You have thoughts about ending sentences with prepositions. You dream about punctuation. You know that using an em dash has a different effect on a reader than using a semicolon—and you’re ready to have a 10-minute debate about it. You have a history of driving measurable business performance through product and marketing copy—specifically in ads, emails, landing pages, and product experiences. You thrive in an environment that lives and breathes a “test and learn” mentality. You’re into financial services, and probably fintech. You’re ready to help grow the Betterment brand through words that the Betterment brand has never before seen. And you’re passionate about doing everything you can to help Betterment customers maximize their money.
Responsibilities
* Write original, innovative Product and Marketing copy for all three Betterment business lines: Betterment retail, Betterment for Advisors, and Betterment for Business * Connect with our customers, build trust, and communicate our value effectively through smart, compelling words * Partner with the Marketing team to bring Betterment’s voice to life across all marketing channels (e.g., email, social, landing pages, ads, etc.) * Partner with Product and Design teams to create effective, engaging copy within our customer experience (e.g., homepage, signup flow, etc.) * Ensure that the Betterment messaging, voice, tone, and style are consistent throughout all channels * Make all of our copy easy to understand, while still conveying our value and maintaining our voice and style
Ideal Candidate
**You will be effective if you have:** * Minimum of 5 years of copywriting experience across email, landing pages, ads, product experiences, and other digital marketing channels * Strong writing, grammatical, and communication skills * Extreme attention to detail and strong organizational skills * Understanding of how design and copy are part of the same customer experience * Ability to explain complex concepts in a brief, intuitive way that also adheres to voice and brand * Data-driven mindset with a history of driving measurable business performance * Clear understanding of direct response best practices across channels * Some understanding of financial advertising compliance principles, as well as ability to adhere to Betterment’s compliance standards * Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment * Ability to prioritize projects and workload as they relate to company and departmental goals * Creativity and sound judgment * Openness to frequent positive and constructive feedback * Excellent researching and interviewing skills * Curiosity and drive to become a financial services expert **Bonus Points if you have:** * Knowledge of SEO and ability to research, identify, and incorporate keywords * Ad agency experience * Regularly followed the fintech space and/or have a financial services background * Experience writing copy for a company in a highly regulated industry * Knowledge of Betterment’s investing philosophy and brand
