Summary
BAE is seeking a Systems Engineer Specialist with experience in one or more of the following Data Center areas of expertise: Database, prior experience working with virtualized server environments, VMWare, Windows and Redhat server operating systems, Storage (NetApp, EMC, Isilon, etc.) The Systems Engineer Specialist will be a member of the Technical Implementation Office and will be responsible for maintaining and overseeing all datacenter infrastructures for the customer’s environment.
Responsibilities
* Troubleshoot problems and provide customer support for software operating system and application issues * Establish and update procedures and documentation and performing daily system monitoring and maintenance, data backup and restoration, data processing utilities, shell scripting, batch processing, security log audits, creation and deployment of server and workstation images * Update software procedures to validate the software requirements specs; application problem resolution; and provide software related support to customer; develop, compile, test and deploy custom scripting to user specifications for problem resolution * Assist in hardware/software integration * Investigate vendor vulnerability updates and patches and create/modify scripting to assure system configuration compatibilities * Monitors system daily for proper operation, performs routine system preventative and restorative maintenance * In-depth troubleshooting and timely support through visual inspection and user interaction * Maintain current technical competencies to recommend appropriate system upgrades * Maintains Windows, Linux and Unix Systems for a high availability system comprised of multiple servers * Schedule and conduct preventative maintenance on hardware and software * Ensure compliance with computer security policy * Monitor system usage and perform system tuning * Design, integrate, test, and administer a variety of storage and Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies and solutions in a mixed vendor environment * Design, integrate, test, and administer data protection solutions for backup/recovery and archiving of data * Provide Tier III support to Application Service Providers (ASPs) and operational staff in troubleshooting complex storage and SAN issues * Design, implement, and troubleshoot server multi-pathing solutions on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, VMware, and Windows * Assess storage performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures * Track existing storage usage trending and provide capacity planning for future growth
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Education and Experience:** Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience **Required Skills and Education:** Bachelors’ degree, preferably in Information Technology, and 8-10 years’ of relevant experience or equivalent relevant experience. * 8 years’ experience in Unix/Linux server administration * 3 years’ experience with Windows 2003, 2008 server administration * Comprehensive knowledge of internetworking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP, firewalls, Local and Wide Area Networks * Strong written/verbal communications, problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills including willingness and ability to document and share information * Must be able to communicate effectively (written and oral) across multiple organizations, both internal and external, and with executive company and customer management. * Demonstrate strong written/verbal communications, problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills including willingness and ability to document and share information. * Knowledge of IT security concepts and practices is essential, including familiarity with technical modifications * Able to work well in a team environment **Preferred Skills and Education:** * Experience with installation, configuration and maintenance of a virtual environment (VMware or Hyper-V and/or Oracle VM (LDOM)), Solaris, Veritas, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Certifications, DOD computer security tools such as SRR and Gold Disk, VB scripting and process documentation * Experience with Government customer’s programs and facilities * Knowledgeable of storage-related concepts and functionality; RAID, LUN, SAN, NAS, data deduplication, thin-provisioning, NFS and CIFS protocols, block and file-level access * Proficient in NetApp FAS-Series stor age design, implementation, configuration, and troubleshooting using both 7-mode and Clustered Data ONTAP * Experience with EMC VNX series storage systems; architecting, provisioning, monitoring, and reporting * Experience with Brocade SAN switches and Fibre Channel infrastructure; architecture, zoning, logical switches, trunking, multi-pathing * Experience with data protection technologies and solutions; Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, EMC Data Domain, NDMP, OST, snapshot
