Summary

We're looking for a Security Engineer to be responsible for designing and implementing security practices for our applications and infrastructure. Appboy operates on massive scale, collecting hundreds of billions of data points each month and sending hundreds of millions of messages to end-users daily. Customers such as Tinder, SoundCloud, Capital One, and Domino's Pizza rely on Appboy to power their user engagement and user lifecycle strategies. With that kind of corporate responsibility, we care a lot about security at Appboy: we ensure our applications are built with a focus on security, and we undergo a multitude of third-party audits each year to affirm our use of security best practices. You will be joining Appboy as our first full-time security hire. In your day to day, you will work with engineers across all of our different groups (mobile, dashboard and backend, data infrastructure, operations, etc.) to harden and automate security practices and controls.

Responsibilities
  • Improve secure engineering practices in the engineering organization
  • Work with our devops team to implement network security controls such as WAF and IDS systems
  • Manage all of Appboy's third-party security audits and penetration tests with vendors
  • Assist Appboy's sales and legal departments with business-related security evaluations
  • Define company-wide security practices and procedures
  • Conduct regular security assessments of Appboy's applications, infrastructure, and security controls
Ideal Candidate
  • At least 2 years of experience working as a Security Engineer or similar
  • The knowledge and ability to run a penetration test of a web application by yourself
  • Understanding of Amazon Web Services and modern application architecture
  • Working knowledge of programming and scripting languages
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with SOC
