Summary
The American Medical Association (AMA), the nation’s largest professional Association of physicians, has a dynamic opportunity for the right individual. As part of the AMA’s Finance team, the Senior Financial Analyst will perform financial functions associated with planning and operational analyses to improve the financial effectiveness of the association. The Senior Financial Analyst will perform statistical and financial analysis of reports and data, and prepare subsequent analysis for management to ensure that financial reporting to management is timely and accurate.
Responsibilities
* Perform statistical and financial analysis of reports and data, and prepare subsequent analysis for management. Review and provide analysis of the monthly financial reporting package for senior management and board of trustees. Assist with monthly/yearly financial close including procedures development, analysis of financial data and trends, determining reasons for past financial performance and creation of monthly financial reporting package for senior management. * Perform quarterly financial review, analysis, preparation, and reporting of financial data and trends for assigned business areas. Follow through on resolving any issues or irregularities. Meet monthly with personnel outside of Finance to review and interpret their area's financial statements when necessary. * Maintain AMA financial systems (Lawson, Blackline, Smart View/Essbase and Hyperion Planning) including databases (i.e. set-up new accounts, departments) and the training of new users on the financial systems. This includes input of external data sets, interfaces and transmissions applied to the appropriate financial system. * Maintain current accounting procedures. Identify and recommend/propose potential areas where existing policies or procedures require change, or new ones should be developed, especially regarding current financial systems practice. Maintain proficiency in accounting and data processing skills, techniques, terminology, and issues.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required. CPA desirable. * 5 – 7 years professional experience in a for-profit work environment, preferably in financial reporting and analysis * Current knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) * Experience with sophisticated financial information systems. Experience Oracle/Hyperion, Planning, Smart View/Essbase, Reporting Studio, Workspace, Blackline and/or Lawson is a plus. * Working knowledge of personal computers and relevant software packages including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) * Excellent communication and analytical skills * Must work effectively with others at all levels of the organization * Self-starter with the ability to work independently * Organized and effective at dealing with many activities simultaneously * Demonstrated ability to meet commitments and deadlines; work overtime when necessary
