Summary

Amazon seeks a passionate, results-oriented, inventive Data Engineer II to lead our structural and semantically understanding of data, required for our forecasting application customer. We are building some of the most innovative solutions that we’d like to deploy in the production. This requires high quality data to be constantly delivered to our forecasting application customers. Our centralized team is responsible to ingest high number of critical data in order for forecasting to generate demand forecast for downstream systems. Data Governance is a complex problem that needs a strong Data Engineer (DE) to lead number of initiatives in order for our ingestion team to deliver quality data meeting customer’s requirements.

Responsibilities

Our Data Engineer needs to be able to gather and understand data requirements, present it to product engineers and work in the team to achieve high quality data ingestion goals. You need to show the passion and be able to thrive on complex problems and relishes the challenge of operating complex and mission critical systems under extreme loads. We strive to solve complex forecasting and supply chain optimization problems that no one else has solved yet.

Successful candidates should come from a strong data engineering background. You need to have experience with structured data, being able to transform and analyze the data using various tools. Although SQL is a strong requirement, being flexible working with some other novel scripting environment is a must. Often, we have to move our data feeds to a new technologies requiring data parity guarantees between new and old feeds. Your analytical skills and knowledge of schema metadata will be required.

Ideal Candidate

Basic Qualifications:

  • A good candidate has strong analytical skills and enjoys working with structural data sets
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL; flexible to learn other scripting languages for data manipulation
  • Good data modeling skills
  • 5+ years of working with large data sets and analyzing data to identify patterns
  • 5+ years of SQL, RDBMS, data warehousing experience
  • Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency and drive.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Effective analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project
  • Experience in communicating with users, other software teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software/data product features, and technical designs.
  • Experience influencing software engineering best practices within your team
  • Background in BigData, Machine Learning and Data Mining is a plus
