Hardware Engineer

We are seeking talented and innovative Hardware Engineers to design, qualify, and test hardware destined for our growing cloud optimization platform consisting of over 200,000 servers in 115 countries within over 1,400 networks. Work could include developing new hardware platforms, benchmarking and validating pre-production hardware, and developing embedded software to run on hardware destined for Akamai’s growing network.

• Create hardware and/or software from scratch that runs on various embedded platforms and/or servers.
• Integrate software and hardware with other systems, groups and 3rd party solutions.
• Testing and initial turn-up of prototype and pre-production hardware or servers.
• Work on projects to make hardware easier to use, more efficient, and secure.

Basic Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelors in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and returning to the program after completion of the internship. *1+ year(s) of experience with x86 hardware and related technologies, standards and protocols: Ethernet, TCP/IP, PCIe, and USB.
• 1+ year(s) of experience with one or more of the following languages: Python, Perl, C or C++ (on Linux based OS).
• 1+ semester of academic lab or 1+ years of other experience with development on embedded hardware such as ARM (e.g. BeagleBone, Raspberry PI, etc.), MIPS, or PPC.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with basic lab hardware: oscilloscopes, power meters, and data acquisition systems.
